How's video games?

Like a sexual cupcake.

PSX games were all body horror, they made the right choice using it for Silent Hill.

Which will achieve 100% playable status first, Citra or Cemu?

Citra is slow and steady in development but getting a lot done right the first time (which means less regressions later). OoT is its poster child, but it doesn't shy away from other games.

Cemu is making seemingly leaps and bounds, but prioritizes a few games and their exceptions.

Citra. There's already tons of games that go in-game, and have decent graphics. Sure it's slow, but it doesn't even have a dynarec yet, so that's expected.

Citra definitely. There's no way those leaps and bounds will continue. Many Wii U games will probably be prohibitively difficult to get good FRs on with accurate graphics anyway

I'm not even sure I would say Cemu is moving faster, just that its area of focus (playability) is currently impressive. I think Citra will ultimately be in a better state than it if we check again a year from now.

My bad, r/emulation. I forgot to put a burka on the womyn in my OP. I'll try harder not to offend your sensibilities in the future. Upboated your post btw OP xD

Yo I have been playing ps1 games on ePSXe and have been wondering if i can somehow stretch my window like I can with the dolphin emu. Also what are some good ps1 games you guys recommend? I have been playing Megaman Legends.

The option in most GPU plugins labeled: Stretching mode
Dunno why you'd ever want to do that though.

...

If you could only choose one aspect to use forever, which would you use? The 4:3 the TVs used, or the exact square pixels of 8:7 that TVs didn't do?

Stretch to fit.

To fit what? Your computer monitor? 16:9? 16:10? 5:4?

Whatever the target may be, so I may simply change said target to get what I desire.

Disgusting

...

Thanks, other me.

SP showing up the dumbass Broglia shills on reddit /r/emulation

reddit.com/r/emulation/comments/4g44kn/anyone_use_bsnes_retroarch_on_their_android_phone/

Know your place, LocutusOfBorges.

4:3 = 16:12
8:7 = 16:14

16:13 is the perfect solution

Yup. Absolutely wasted if you ask me. The author of the emu looks to only be interested in using it to pad his/her own resume. Once they can get a few of the most popular titles to play to completion I don't expect it'll ever be worked on again.

Don't ask me. I'm already raising my eyebrows at how opaque the governance is surrounding OpenEmu. :/

I'd say report it, but all work on mainline mednafen is currently silent. Not a single fucking update since October of last year. :(

PCSX2 is probably impossible to port to Mac at this point now that Gregory insists on GL4.5+ support as a bare minimum.

clobber would have to fork PCSX2 at the point before Gregory switched to GL 4.5-only and even then it'd be a major time investment to maintain it.

I think only SP really has the necessary time and the dedication to do these kind of hard forks and be semi-successful. Doesn't work always as with PPSSPP but it works more often than not.

Anyway, RetroArch is always an option on Mac and its UI is getting better and better. 1.3.4 might be a big sea change in that regard.

clobber should have just added a real libretro player inside OpenEmu like SP recommended to him several times.

Instead he just got offended by it and stuck to his 'ObjectiveC-only' API, Not even Apple sees any future in Objective-C. Sticking to it is stupid, and libretro is pretty close to a universal standard by now when it comes to emulators being exposed to other code. Might as well save oneself the work of all core maintenance and concentrate on a single codebase where stuff can get done. Time is not at a premium, and open source barely works as is, better not have even more needless re-duplication of the wheel and instead concentrate efforts to get some stuff done.

I still can't fucking believe Apple is pushing this "Metal" bullshit (it'll end up taking the place of OpenGL no matter what assurances Apple is giving, you know....

I'd say open source works plenty, just not for mission-critical shit that needs to be done immediately with a minimum of fragmentation and next to no instability.

I'd never trust open source to provide a good desktop GUI, but it's produced some nigh-immortal userland applications. Even after running fallow some ten years ago I've seen someone come along, dust them off, and go right back to coding.

Choosing Objective-C in today's world would indeed be an asinine decision, being deprecated by Swift as it will. But clobber didn't likely "choose" that so much as "inherit" it from whoever the previous dev was (openemu was purely theoretical for a good long while before clobber took over from previous management under suitably mysterious circumstances). He'll have to change over eventually, or call it quits altogether. Apple does not fuck around with obsolete portions of OS X.

Which RA cores differ appreciably from their standalone counterparts compatibility wise? I'm guessing ppsspp, reicast, and perhaps mupen64+ based on version numbers but then what do I know

PPSSPP's libretro core hasn't been updated in about a year.
Beetle mednafen has some extra features that regular mednafen lacks. Same with Mupen I think.

Do you really have to delete ROMs after 24 hours?

Shit he knows.

Which is better to emulate, GameCube, Xbox or PlayStation 2?

There are some games I want to play and they are released on PS2, Xbox & GCN.

When I say better I mean:
which has better optimization
which looks best
which is most stable

If you're curious as to what I want to play, its spongebob games

Isn't reicast relatively new?
Seems to be expected it's shallow currently, especially since once again the actual devs don't give a shit.

I'm actually excited to have it though. My last DC emulation experience was with nulldc and while it worked out I wouldn't mind a familiar "just works" environment like RA with all my other shit.

Your question is double-sided. Do you want to emulate on them, or actually emulate them.

For emulating the OG xbox, you're fucked.
As a good emulation console, you'd be better off with the Wii instead of those three. You'd also get the obvious benefit of GC games.

Spec-wise: Wii ~ Xbox > GCN > PS2
Usually, graphics and performance are reflected accordingly but obviously still up to whatever the devs did.

Definitely not Xbox, probably GameCube in Dolphin. PCSX2 will probably work for PS2 games though but Dolphin is a better emulator.

Thanks for the reply.

I meant emulate them, as in play console games on my PC.

That being said I totally forgot that the wii can play GC games, so I'm probably just going to put what I want to play on my wii.

Planning on going through original Spyro series.
Checked wiki and 6 out of 7 emulators are recommended. Which one would be best?

Depends what you're looking for. If you want accuracy go for the mednafen core in RA. If you want HD go with PCSX-R. If you have a decent enough computer you should be able to play it at 2x internal resolution in mednafen though, that might be enough for you.

It's easy to softmod a wii and you don't have to worry about compatability since it has inbuilt perfect gamecube emulation. Get DiosMios installed and you can run any GC game from an external hard-drive. You'll need a disc manager too like configurableUSBloader.

Isn't Nintendont recommended now?

Isn't that WiiU only?
I modded my Wii years ago so I've just been using DiosMios since it came out.
I'll look into Nintendon't if it's better and on Wii.

Automatic disc swapping, nice.
I take it that it lets you use classic controllers as emulated GC controllers too?

So, anyone from last thread know where to score the Redump copies of the Turbografx-CD library? RUTracker was carrying them at one point, but as best I can piece together from a Google Translate, they switched to TruRip for whatever cussed reason.

It would depend on the pixel aspect ratios that the consoles used. In the SNES's case, it has a pixel aspect ratio of approximately 8:7, which would cause most of its games to have a display aspect ratio of 64:49.

reddit.com/r/emulation/comments/4ggf3l/theoretical_60fps_ps1_gameplay/

I can't start mednafen propably cuz win10
PSX-R doesn't recognize iso for some reason.
ePSX has pretty weird graphic options, maybe it's because of standard plugings. Is it nromal I cant change any options while emu is going on?

I don't understand this part at all:

> This value is impossible to change on my end and is actually an intrinsic function of any of the GPU Plugins -- so I can't simply tell the plugin to stop generating the limit or else the entire emulation (and I assume console) crashes. Sad, I know.

There's no hardware divider in the PSX GPU, the "frameskipping" was done in software always, and it's obviously game-dependent.

It's of course theoretically possible to get MGS to run at 60fps but that would require a game-specific hack and might be tricky to implement if you don't want to break anything.

I believe retroarch should work on windows 10, although I haven't tried it myself.

And I believe that you can't change settings while ePSXe is running, yes.

Retroarch+mednafen works fine for me on W10

SP "perfect" day

1) refactor some code
2) cleanup some shit
3) scan ze internet for people posting about retroarch or retarach "competitors"
3) rant on "emuboards" about "emudevs" work & promote his own work
4) revert some refactoring to fix regressions
5) sleep two hours
6) goto 1)

How do you refactor and regress?

Any recommendations for a single, decent controller for emulation?

Got a generic for peanuts and now it's shat the bed so I'm hoping something else can not only last longer but perform better.

shithead reddit /r/emudev "perfect" day

1) lord over some pathetic subreddit with 63 people active at a time, think that makes you a bigshot
2) suck payware authors' small dicks
3) fall for televangelist nuts like the launchbox author guy, "praise to the lord!!!!!!"
4) act like you know what you're talking about
5) rinse and repeat, go to 1)

I.e. Locutusborges/Sins_Reverend's 'life'. Two dipshit endusers who will never amount to jack shit, will never learn how to code, will never make themselves useful. Go kill yourself.

Reddit faggots are getting so pathetic, they are falling for televangelist nuts like the Launchbox author:

reddit.com/r/emulation/comments/4fvtq5/launchbox_dev_talking_about_his_software_and/d2fzrd7

"Hey guys, thought I should probably address this. I understand where you're all coming from; I probably wouldn't want to use a website with atheistic quotes all over the bottom of every page, so I get it.

Let me first talk about my objectives here; my objective isn't to force my faith on anyone, but rather, I want everything I create to be a form of worship for the Lord. Over the years I've learned that for me personally, success comes strictly through my faith. The honest truth is that without my faith, LaunchBox wouldn't exist. I've been able to do this stuff only with the Lord's help. And as a result I want to make sure that I don't stray away from that, because when I do, things will start to go downhill.

I'll be real with you guys. I'm a father of three with a bad temper problem, a raging porn addiction, and a history of awful things. I'm a fucking failure. The success I've had comes strictly from the grace of God, and I need constant reminders to stay on the right path. I never succeeded at anything of my own accord.

I know that's pretty heavy, but hopefully it helps to share more of where I'm coming from. The Lord has forgiven me for all this stuff and helped me to overcome a lot of it. So I don't put up scripture to preach to you, I do it as a constant reminder for myself to be humble and to remember where this success comes from."

Some dipshit who wrote a crappy C# frontend and sells 'license keys' to willing dupes, lelz.

All the heavy-hitters in emulation are permutations of SP. byuu, clobber, Rhypecha...

Endrift seems nice enough, so by the laws of emudev dysfunctionality he is all but contractually obligated to pull a Hans Reiser at some point to balance things out.

This guy is fucking delusional, lol

Whut? You have no idea what you are talking about.

I'm going to try a Logitech F510 with a PowerA ProEx XBONE controller as backup. In general, I hear the standardized Microsoft XBONE controller is now the reigning champ (for both wired and wireless categories, unusually enough) among gaming controllers.

The first emulator televangelist.

Apparently The Lord tells them "run a hustle on these bitches, take their moniez"

Can't go wrong with an Xbox360 controller or one of the copycats that use the same drivers.

>tripfag in charge of calling out others mental stability

>the mods deleted my pokemon question so I'm mad!

You have to know after all, right?

I would use Voat before Reddit, and I'm pretty sure its about to go under anyways. Leddit is a truly awful place run by a confirmed libtard fuckwad. I hear he spends his afternoons bending over for the typically exploitative Silicon Valley board that runs that shithole, so that they may more easily alternate shoving their fists deep into his asshole to achieve truly refined control over the precise heaping tablespoon of bullshit that flies out his mouth that hour.

>5) sleep two hours

He sleeps aprox 8 hours. But otherwize you're right. He's the isolationist weirdo programmer sitting in his darkened basement with a big Anarchist flag in the background, unkept beard.

>Any recommendations for a single, decent controller for emulation?

DS3/4.

Someone should tell him to get a room. We don't want to hear about the faggoty shit he gets up to with his buttbuddy Jesus.

/emugen/ "perfect" day

1)start up several games in emulators but don't play any of them, just stare at the title screens or attract mode looking for inaccuracies
2) go to /emugen/ thread and make a shitpost about any emulator glitch that was found while providing zero constructive information, or make random complaint about RetroArch if nothing else is found.
3)go hang around Reddit/github/IRC to find out new drama
4)Shitpost about said drama on /emugen/ thread, or shitpost about SP when no other drama exists
5) Go stare at emulators some more
6) Masturbate
7) Sleep for 10-12 hours
8)Goto 1)

my perfect day is more like this

1) download several Gigabytes of ISOs and roms
2) set up each new emulator for half an hour
3) never open it again

Well, all non-atheists are delusional to some extent, but this guy fucking takes the cake. Well, unless you count the TempleOS guy.

Atheists can be delusional as well. Just because you are right about one thing doesn't mean you got it all figured out or that you even came to the right answer for the right reasons.

Humans are delusional, full-stop.

Agreed.

Who are these people?

SP is the default harassment target because he actually responds 90% of the time in some way. Most other devs don't respond to trolling (mostly because they usually don't even read this shithole in the first place) so they're less targeted for harassment. Responding to trolls just makes them troll harder.

>Whut? You have no idea what you are talking about.

pastebin.com/9RvTpETG

Oh shit, financial morals fight in /hbg/.

What's emugen's thoughts on:
>"Virtual console" like re-releases
>Multiple of the former, unique to each system (for instance, separate purchases for Wii and 3DS)
>Single purchases for multiple systems (for instance, a single PS1 classic purchase is valid for PS3/PSP/Vita/etc)

reddit.com/r/emulation/comments/4g44kn/anyone_use_bsnes_retroarch_on_their_android_phone/

For reference

Basically SP overreacting over nothing again.

>locotusofborges

That's the guy who wrote this giagantic wall of bullcrap about how user unfriendly RetroArch.

reddit.com/r/emulation/comments/446yyi/how_can_i_make_retroarch_like_nesoid/czodidy

>reddit.com/r/emulation/comments/446yyi/how_can_i_make_retroarch_like_nesoid/czodidy

And because of him we actually added two shortcut keys 'enter and backspace' that did exactly what he wanted, but unfortunately, that also cancelled out the way to 'default' settings, so literally, even his 'feedback' was just counter productive and it's just a stupid roundabout excuse of wanting to use an undesirable user input interface (keyboard) for something that is best to be controlled with a gamepad (XMB).

You cannot win with people like this.

I like the enter and backspace thing though. It's useful while developing if I don't want to reach for my controller.

>all non-atheists are delusional to some extent
pls go...

>that also cancelled out the way to 'default' settings

Spacebar was set as the "set to default" key. So it still works with the keyboard.

Please don't remove those keybinds since it makes it easier to confirm/cancel with the keyboard without knowing the exact RetroPad keybinds.

I have been known to buy things on virtual console before.
I think it's better for the titles to be tied to an account rather than a console.
I don't foresee myself buying virtual console titles in future. I'm pretty full emulation mode these days.

Here's the code for those keybinds

github.com/libretro/RetroArch/blob/748f5dc74b52f15fb799584ecbdf712de404af63/menu/menu_driver.c#L206

RETROK_SPACE triggers MENU_ACTION_START, which is the same as pressing "Start" on the gamepad while in the menu.

Digital goods in any form are a scam period. Until the laws which govern copyright and consumer rights change drastically, I'll take retro gaming any day of the week or month of the year. At least I actually own that shit.

>drama stops happening
>thread dies

You're quite free to answer my question if you want some productive discussion.

>"Virtual console" like re-releases

Rehashing cashgrabs with inferior emulation

>Multiple of the former, unique to each system (for instance, separate purchases for Wii and 3DS)

Completely cancerous.

>Single purchases for multiple systems (for instance, a single PS1 classic purchase is valid for PS3/PSP/Vita/etc)

That's more sensible at least.

Of course, it's always OK when Nintendo does anything.

Can I get my games running smoothly with an AMD X4 860K? Has anyone got that chip? I'm looking to play Ratchet & Clank and I'm not sure if it's worth the hours of download. Got the original, PS2's broken.

Ratchet and Clank games run poorly anyway unless you're in software mode.
I don't really know how much AMD vs Intel is going to impact but it sounds like you've got the power if you can put up with the terrible texture problems on hardware mode.

Holy shit, I just looked up Intel's SGX. Why would I ever buy a CPU with that feature?

Because soon you'll have no choice :^)

I'm done with computing at that point. I will never accept something like that.

AMD's back, baby.

Hi, guys, I've already rummaged through the wikis in the OP, so I'm going to ask you for your personal experience.

I have an AMD X4 860K clocked at 4.1GHz. Anyone else got this chip for emulation? Can anyone give me some advice on the settings you use to get the maximum framerate?

Thanks.

This is frighteningly accurate
