A is more of a suspense. "No time to explain, extinguish!" You don't get what's going on. Watase has no memory. So he's not that "older", although he is kinda mature and "hero" type.
On the other hand, B has some suspense and mystery but at the same time it slowly introduces you to the setting, explaining all the shit about Communicators, L.A.B.O. and the city.
I'd recommend reading B first. You gotta get the feels. You won't get 'em if you start with A.

Himawari and Fata Morgana are fantastic though, hope they keep up that quality but I doubt it.

Actually, the more I think about it, though, the more I get the feeling I might have enjoyed the game more if I played B first. A was more mysterious and thought-provoking without B's background info, but it would've added a whole new dimension if I actually cared about what was going on with the out-of-sight kids. I'd still recommend A to someone who easily drops stuff, because I'm well aware that most people find it better paced and more enjoyable.
