Generally, real people aren't going to slow down and pronounce stuff in whatever accent you're used to so you can process all they're saying. To know kanji and understand how to pronounce them is way different from being able to understand people in actual conversation.

The only point where I couldn't understand something was the second Krishna fight right at the beginning because he got really quiet while the music was pretty loud.
Japanese is very easy to understand in video games.
Either way I don't know how this is relevant anyways since understanding spoken lines from video games should really be the least of one's problems. I mean if he can read Japanese, he doesn't lose anything of the meaning.

Guys, I'm currently emulating DDS2 on the PS3 and it crashes once I reach the second fight at the start. Any ideas why?

Restarting your PS3 or the game could help. I don't suppose uninstalling and redownloading the game will work? Does it lag after you use a skill or something and crashes? Does it crash after you use a skill? Or does the trigger of starting the second battle crash the game?

I still want to play Imagine just to see what I missed. For completeness' sake.

Seconding what said. PAL is a pile of donkey in general, NTSC is the better option always. You might have gotten a bad rom otherwise, download a different one.

I finally finished Devil Survivor 2's new story.
