errors into mistakes

Didn't see that thread was almost dead so I'll ask here too

I remember a year or so ago I used I think tubehax on my o3DS to be able to use custom themes but I never did anything more than that. Is there anything I have to do to my 3DS before attempting to downgrade it? Or can I follow the tutorials as though it were otherwise completely unhacked?

>Is there anything I have to do to my 3DS before attempting to downgrade it? Or can I follow the tutorials as though it were otherwise completely unhacked?
If you still have tubehax dns configured for your wifi you should probably undo that. Just don't accidentally update after that. The tubehax DNS has been blocking updates for you until now.

github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/Part-1-(Homebrew)

Hi, I'm on 10.3 (3DS) and "only" interested in region-free.
Unlike back with the Wii that appears to be quite a mess.
What are my options?

Is there any advantage in installing FBI if I already have devmenu installed?

You need homebrew before you can downgrade it. The Plailect Wiki guide linked in OP covers that, and, once you're done, you'll have a permanent homebrew/CFW solution and won't be able to spot the difference between a hacked/unhacked console until you start running imported, hacked software.

You CAN get custom themes without downgrading, but I don't recommend it because you'll be screwed/stuck on 10.7 after a new firm comes out until a new exploit for said firm comes out.

If you are on 10.6 or higher, you cannot hack your 3DS without a copy of Cubic Ninja, Ocarina of Time, or Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon.
If you are on 10.6 or higher and only have either of the last two games listed, you will also need another 3DS at or below 10.5 firmware or an Action Replay Powersaves Pro.

Anything 10.5 under, you can do it without any of that. Just follow the guide and have an SD card 8gb or higher on-hand. Don't skip any steps.

Yes, while it used to be a tossup, 2.0 is easily the most impressive of the bunch.

Everything I just said here still applies to you: Although the easier solution is to get yourself a Sky3DS+ flashcart (it has 2 orange buttons on it), which is $70 or so.

By easier, I mean less tedious. The guide is very simple, but takes 3-5 hours of your time to get through. Depends on which you'd rather spend time/money on. (P.S. Ocarina of Time + Powersaves cost around $40 together if you're USA)

Is it okay to use FunKeyCIA if I delete the rom within 24 hours?

Exactly.

thanks guys

>Everything I just said here still applies to you
>Although the easier solution is to get yourself a Sky3DS+ flashcart
That's not region-free, but flat-out piracy-enabling, though.

If you go from emuNAND to redNAND, do you lose game saves on the emuNAND?

>8gb or higher
I'm about to go to the store to get one, is there an upper limit on how big it can be? Is 64 fine?

The Sky3DS+ is definitely piracy, but everything else I've said still applies.

You'll want to set up a CFW no matter what.

No upper limit, but note that the higher you go, the slower your A9LH boot is, and the more likely you are to install games you'll probably never play. I'd recommend 32gb with a class 10 write speed, but you can go as high as you want.

>mfw greentext fail
lol whoops

Getting CFW up and running takes... two hours, maybe. Including raging on browserhax because the fucking thing refuses to work, making backups and waiting for stuff to transfer. A9LH is another thing entirely.
I'd say it's way better than spending money on a flashcart.

Stupid bloody question time.
I've done up to step 3 of the 3DS instructions above, I have redNAND and Luma working. How do I actually put games on there? I can't find any instructions anywhere. Do you just drop the .3DS or .CIA file onto the SD card?

bump

Yep, this is true. You can stop as soon as you inject FBI at Part 4 and you don't have to follow the rest of the guide after that. You'd be missing out on the ability to unbrick sysnand (removing the need to use emunand), faster/discreet boots, and 100% consistent boot rate (menuhax with the lesshax payload I believe is around 80%)

Here's a comparison vid if you think the remaining 3 hours are worth it: youtube.com/watch?v=uMFpTclC82g

Follow steps 11 to 17 of Part 4 to inject FBI.
Put .cia files in any place on the SD card (I'd recommend either using the root or creating "CIAs" folder).
Use FBI to install them.

I injected the CTR of the emunand on the sysnand, and put that file to load the sysnand instead of the emunand, but I freezzes in a black screen when I try to boot the sysnand. Without that file it load the emunand just fine.

What do?

There's also another way of installing games via tickets database and QR code.
You'll still need FBI or any other .cia installer, though.
Fuck this disappearing images captcha.

I installed smash via FBI QR, but when I try to boot it it has a black screen after the 3DS loop and then I get the "an error has ocurred, pres que power button etc".

That image triggers me.

>people are this retarded

What causes this?

Why is there no Xbone info in the OP?

Most common cause is manually selecting firmware not right for your 3DS region.

>tfw i have a shit ton of 3ds games now
wtf do i play hbg?

because the Xbone has literally no hacking scene

What, specifically?

This and skipping steps in the Plailect Guide without it specifying to do so

why is the op outdated all of a sudden

I love when people add their own steps to the guides.

Actually, bootrom errors are really hard to get. Even wrong region/device type or bad downgrades won't give you a bootrom error, those typically get black screens or "an error has occurred" ones. You pretty much have to restore a SysNAND backup from a different 3DS.

are you sure? I thought that blue error screen was the gateway brick image being used over and over

>leave the jap version of ACNL to download overnight
>it stopped at some point close to the end and just froze

Fuck.
Either way, good morning /hbg/.
What are you homebrewin' and playin' today?

Unlock all the racetracks in mario kart 7

if you dont feel like it play donkey kong country and have a good time

What happens when they do that to emunand? Will it give a bootrom error on emunand boot?

In what sense?

Blue bootrom screen like OP is hardbrick. You'd have to be literally retarded to manage it, but if you do then your 3DS is literally trash.

I think part of the issue is they get egotistical thinking they know how it works, decide the guide adds too many unnecessary steps, and chooses to skip the steps they think are okay to skip, like not backing up their NANDs or trying to use their system in the middle of the process because it got boring.

Part of why that could happen is they don't actively follow the community and jump straight into the guide and get impatient after a while, without realizing how dangerously precise the operation really is.

Nope. The bootrom error screens happen if the bootrom can't load the FIRM, but with CFW, the CFW you're using is in charge of loading it (and they usually load it from SD card). You'll get an error from your CFW or a black screen instead.

Brilliant, cheers!

Likewise, I've also seen some people who choose not to hack because they are scared to trust themselves to succeed, despite how easy the guide is. It's kind of sad to see sometimes, actually!

The first part of your post is wrong, the second one is right. These things don't actually work well together.

What games?

I just installed A9LH with Luma3DS, all injected into sysNAND, so I don't have emuNAND now.
It all works perfectly fine, installing, playing... but when there's a firmware update (ie 10.8), what should I do? Install right away using system management? or do we have to install future updates using another thing?

d-did i fuck up?

You can install updates just fine, if Nintendo breaks something you could always restore a sysnand backup.

It'll be fine to update. Realistically there's nothing Nintendo can do.

I'd check here before updating first anyway

Anyone want to kindly provide a link to fire emblem fates ?
I want to play Both sides

I used tikdevil 2.0, how can I clean up my ticket.db?

Clean up easily*

Much obliged

>ELEVEN TO TWELVE HOURS
Glad to join the homebrew club.

?

I actually split the two into two separate kinds of people who brick, but otherwise, why would you think the first part isn't right?

I thought setting up my 3DS using the guide would just take an hour or two. Then I looked at the clock.

damn girl, the average is 3-5 hours

you could have actually stopped at the FBI injection at part 4 and finished up at some later date, and getting that far typically takes about 2 hours

in any case, glad you made it. enjoy your KICKASS

it does take an hour or two

took me 8

Alright, I downloaded the Jap ACNL but it goes to a black screen before crashing and restarting the system.

Any idea what I can do? Might it be because I have the English one on there too?

I tried installing Animal Crossing tickets for downloading it from the eShop but it doesn't show on the software i can download. I tried installing it from the CDN using FBI but after a while my console freezed. Is there any other way for installing the game using the tickets?

So my 2DS has decided to stop booting into emunand. Before I could just hold R and it would boot into rxmode. Now it just boots straight into sysnand. my sysnand is on 9.0 (and has been the entire time) so its not an update that killed it.

>2DS
>rxtools
>9.0

Just use browserhax to get into HBL and set up menuhax.

You will be able to play Yume Nikki on your 3DS pretty soon when we get the RPG Maker Homebrew running by the way

how do people manage to brick? getting to a9lh was so easy.

why the fuck would you not make it auto into EmuNAND?

It sounds like you need to redo menuhax.

But this time, make the setting so that it boots to homebrew without pressing any buttons, and boots to sysnand when you press a button. Then set up CTR Boot Manager, so when you turn your 2DS on, it'll open CTR Boot Manager and go straight to Emunand in 3 seconds, or give you the option to go to Homebrew or Sysnand manually

OOPS MY DISCOUNT DOLLARY DOO CHINESE SD CARD CORRUPTED AND I DELETED MY BACKUPS LAST WEEK CAUSE I THOUGHT I WAS DONE RIGHT

Can you download/install other regions' stuff through the CDN and the QR codes?

>making a rednand because you had an emunand and downgraded to 9.2 from 9.2
it's always those kind of people

And that's why you never delete your backups!

Bump for these two.

The otp is good to be printed as a qr code and placed inside the handhelds back cover, if the machine itself is destroyed you won't be needing it anymore, let them die together.

I hacked my 3DS a long time ago successfully, no problems at all since then. But just in case, I kept a backup of my entire SD, as well as my NAND.bin. Is there really any reason for me to keep either of those? It's taking up about 13 GB on my hard drive.

Yes.

Is there an explanation of why I need either of them?

I'm not doing a9lh so i'm not necessarily totally fucked if I somehow lose my SD.

On my hacked new 3ds, my c stick is stuck in the down position which causes any home cfw to spaz out moving down

My sysnand isn't updated past 9.2 so it doesn't know what a c-stick is, causing it to work perfectly. Games that support the c-stick for camera controls also clearly show the camera freaking out.

Is there any CFW options or patches or what have you that allow me to just disable the c-stick?

Only one way to find out :D

>bitching about 13GB

do you have a 500 gb laptop or what?

>My sysnand isn't updated past 9.2 so it doesn't know what a c-stick is
>has nothing to do with anything

Delete some porn instead.

gbatemp.net/threads/amiibos-wont-work-on-n3ds.424749/#post-6307036

there's a way to calibrate it in the settings I think

there's a chance it's a physical problem though by the sounds of it

I thought that was already released and working

Yeah, I'm about 99% sure it's a physical problem, was just wondering if there was a way to straight up disable it as I don't care to use it at the cost of not being able to control my home screen.

>Don't use developer options if you don't know what you're doing

It's fucking nothing.

110 GB
no way José, that's like telling me to kill my firstborn

back it up in a Mega account or something and then delete it if it's bugging you so much

you should really get a bigger HDD though, 3TBs aren't that expensive anymore

Oh... You should think at least of buying an external disk, bacue I don't think one 110 GB laptop can even handle a hard disk renovation without exploding.

Whats the best flashcard to get if all I want to do is play DS games on a 3DS?
