Hpals are one of the best healers in the game right now, like disc priests they're basically a priority for every guild to try and have 1 because they're that good.
Realistically all the tanks specs are good, prot paladins happen to also have the highest damage output of all the tanks by a pretty big margin. Like a huge margin, like prot paladin dps can be so fucking stupid they stomp actual dps classes.
Memes aside ret is decent, they're just not wanted as much as rogues, warriors, and graspknights.
