First dedpost.

Let's have a nice, comfy thread.

Not too degenerate either.

That's a request we all know is impossible.

If you consider all forms of 2D degeneracy, then that's impossible. Let's not talk about things TOO degenerate, though, like those who have been on the last thread might know ...

[muffled whale noises]

I wonder who posted this...

Why censor the mouth, are lips too lewd now ?

...

...

[weird time-dilation sound effect]

...

You mean like Clover and Victor?
I think you'd be surprised. I think there's at least a dozen, it's just that timezones are an issue.

>ace combat 7 won't have an emblem customizer a la Black Ops 1
But if it did, post your best patch ideas!
>tfw on mobile at work

>a la Black Ops 1
Oh that is adorable. You really needn't look any further than your neighbor and old buddy for good emblem ideas from a good emblem maker.

Val's pal made this for Basilisk.

>neighbor and old buddy
Are you implying you know me lmao

Here to remind Apogee should be called ZUN squadron or Nineball.

Explain further

Baka baka.

It's because the apogee logo looks like Cirno.

Well, technically you're just down I-20E.

>He didn't get it
Warcrimes, I explained it to you myself threads ago. I even used this same pic related.

ah, the classic MW-1

Oh yeah! 2hu!

Wait, I-20? You mean the one in Atlanta?

Baka desus senpai, that's what you get for skipping and sleeping in class, airhead!

No, the one that leads into DFW.

dude it's I that means interstate, it goes from florida to texas

where are you jackasses btw? I'm in SE michigan and I want to fucking kill myself sometimes

Atlanta

Oh boy, blogging timeVancouver

Why does the F-22 not have a 'real' airbrake? I never understood that, it seems like the rudder + aileron + flap braking wouldn't be all that effective.

Still DFW
You should move to the south desu

I'm almost certain those slats on its dorsal side have something to do with it-there's little other reason for them to exist, as exhaust would be produced further back in the plane and cooling isn't much of an issue in that area

HUEHUEHUE. That is enough to identify me, I think ?
But it is, an airbrake would just be an aditional burden and the gap it has on the body of the plane is just another place to have radar energy reflect from.

Wait how do you know I sleep in class
I still have As

Airbrakes are outdated.

Today, you can generate just as much drag with more control and stability by employing existing control surfaces.

I can read your mind.

Another 2 million credits to go before Yayoi is finally rich. A 3 mil drop would be greatly appreciated Bamco.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

IT'S
OCCURRING

>Inb4 you're caught in a never ending loading screen afterwards

HE'S WORTH 30,000 POINTS!!! THAT'S LIKE FIGHTING 6 PIXYS!!! THAT SETTLES IT!!! THIS IS THE BEST ACE COMBAT GAME I'VE EVER PLAYED!!! GOD, I FUCKING LOVE VIDEO GAMES SO MUCH!!! MY DEPRESSION IS FUCKING GONE, MAN!!!

Good night, Aces, seeya'll later.

He's the one, no doubt. The ace of aces!

Northern Michigan, but not a UP gent.

seriously dude Zero is a fucking masterpiece. Critics complained that it didn't improve on 5 enough but IMO they're missing the point - it was a refinement and perfection of 5, it didn't need to change much. It's like complaining that Call of Duty 4 didn't change enough from CoD 2 (which while itself a bullshit statement is the same sort of idea).

Dude, I haven't felt this fucking elated since I played Metal Gear for the first time. This is amazing.

it's pretty great isn't it? a lot of people have Zero as their favourite Ace Combat for good reasons, I mean sure the gameplay is only a slight improvement from 5 but the rest of it was done so well.

>tfw you can never experience zero for the first time again

...

Here's the highpoint, and after that comes the lows...

The northern parts of the southern peninsula are great - I have a couple friends up there. Near Manistee at all?

desu, AC6 is pretty alright, at least as far as gameplay. The story might be worse than 5's though. I haven't played Infinity but it seems at least okay.

Traverse area.

It's sad too because forget Zero, many won't experience this thrill because Ace Combat seems like a boring military flight simulator on the surface. I mean, I had a copy of Shattered Skies because of my uncle, yet I didn't even try it out for like a good 3 years because that's what I thought at the time.

04 is still my favorite
Best story presentation by a mile, the personal and almost minimalist nature of it absolutely makes it great

Yes, exactly.

It's a very simple, very narrow story, where the player is merely a catalyst instead of the focus.

Well, I've yet to try X and JA, I need a 360 for 6, and I've still got a bunch of other routes to do in 3. I'm also still having fun with Infinity, as jewish as the game can be. My 10 year old is playing Assault Horizon Legacy+ and is supposedly having lots of fun. I don't even want to get near Assault Horizon because of what I've heard and seen (turret sequences, chopper sequences, forced DFM, crazy camera, QTEs, regenerating health...I think I might vomit). The music seems to be the only redeeming quality, and even then only some of it.

I feel like the simplicity doesn't speak poorly of PA's writing ability, but instead speaks to how they were trying to present the story proper. It reminds me of that Narcissu VN.

It's a great way to handle the player's nature as an unstoppable god by changing them from the center to the periphery

X is great. Cool game, starts to morph the planes into AC3 technology, with several planes having the COFFIN system already. JA takes a little getting used to, but overall bretty gud. 6 is also pretty fun too. dance with the angels you maggot . Stay the fuck away from AH, everything you've heard is 100% true. I actually got stomach cancer from playing that piece of shit.

>Ded

Well, since we've circlejerked ac04's story for long enough, let's talk about Zero's.

I feel like the documentary presentation was fascinating, and that the integration of real actors with the game's PS2 era graphics was handled with a great degree of skill, keeping the two almost completely separate. The actual story itself adroitly handles the "unstoppable god" very well, canonizing the enigma that is the player while also personifying them according to the player's own ingame decisions. Furthermore, by setting the story in a secrecy-shrouded past war(whose outcome by definition is known), PA's writers shifted the focus from the "can the player win the war?" (To which the answer is a boring and definite "yes") to "how did the player win the war?," which leaves room to insert the gameplay. I think with Zero PA finally managed to move the attention and focus of the story to the player while still maintaining an interesting story.

Bravo, crimes. Well said.

Thanks fampai

When you look at it this way, Zero is a development of 04's story philosophy, one that fully subverts (04) or embraces (Zero) player agency. I can't comment on 5, because I've never played it, but if anyone wants to give me an analysis to work with I'd love to know

I actually really like the assault records the most. The 3 or 4 sentence descriptions really added something - it felt like you were shooting down real people.

That is a perfect, or close enough description of how the game was handled. Bravo mate, you have done all of us proud.

Actually I take that back, Zero is more of a balance between 04's full subversion and the massive free agency of something like Spec Ops: The Line, where the player gets to choose endings. In Zero, you don't choose the ending, but you do choose the journey, which places the player's percieved importance firmly on the journey itself.

But that's just a nitpick

So yeah, does anyone uh have a summary of 5's story? From what i've heard, it seems like it falls prey to the trap we discussed above: the linear story means no part of the outcome is in question, despite the player being told the war hinges on their efforts. It also seems like PA's writers failed to frame the narrative in such a way that player agency is relevant to the story, and also failed to subvert or redirect the Unstoppable God (tm) to a more useful role in the story.

5 also has the problem of the whole squadron being propped up as being incredible pilots but the AI being total shit. None of your wingmen do fucking anything.

Soon™

Yeah, this is a problem. Though for some reason, i've always had a soft spot for 5. i know should be my fave, but i just love 5 too much

Is 5's gameplay good?

Fuck. Meant to say i know 0 should be my favorite.

Basically the same as 0, except people ask you shit sometimes and you can give a yes or no. The plane trees and the kill meter are kind of a pain in the ass. You'll see what i mean when you play it.

I also found Pixy did approximately jack shit to keep enemies off my tail

I'd just set him to free on every mission

It's pretty much the same as Zero.

5 was good in my opinion, particularly gameplay-wise, but several parts of the story were very standard and terribly anime in nature.

Having said that, it had a mission where you fly a Nighthawk in an actual stealth capacity (taking spy photos and dodging enemy hot spots), carrier takeoffs/landing, and a singing russian AWACS.

Solitaire used to really spook me

Man, Oka Nieba was some GOOD SHIT.

The game overall had some faults as far as writing, dialogue, and story, but overall was a pretty fun game. Not as bad as 6 IMO.

Interesting. So now for the fun part

Let's dissect Zero and 04's flaws. Where should we start, anons?

Lack of phantom variety.

04's feeling of utter detachment from the main character felt pretty bad, playing it after Zero. There were gameplay flaws that were noticeable at the time but which I can't rattle off now, years later.

Just as bad, if not worse then hornetposters.

The more you hate the stronger I get.

Have some ass porn

See, I didn't find that a flaw, because you're not supposed to connect with the player character. Doing so would in fact defeat the purpose of telling the story through letters.

>Drider "Shooting up this civilian ship like a school shooter in a kindergarten" the Collider.

I understood that, but it made it harder to enjoy it at the time.

Like, artistically? It's good. It tells the message it's trying to tell.

But that message is that you're murdering living people with lives who are trying to be heroes too. And that sort of wasn't fun.

I mean war is war. The message of that game was that war, while necessary sometimes, is not something to be taken lightly.

>it's an optional target, don't shoot it!
it's people like you who will cause this war to drag on without end

No such thing as innocence in war user!

does this count as avatarfagging

Yes.

Yes.

i can do it too!

Saved, thanks!
