Whenever I've been hit by a rapier I get the same stagger animation people get when I hit them with my greataxe, and no amount of mashing dodge gets you away from the follow up.

As a sl 99 I got hit hard by the auto scaling. I'll probably be of no use to you if I die in 1-2 shots when the king comes out and likely make the fight harder too

Am I the only one who thinks the world building sucks ass in DS3? I'm nearing the end of the game and I still have no sense of the state of the world or the central theme. I like the cryptic nature of Souls games. But this is not even cryptic. The NPCs have just one line of dialogue and explain nothing of the world. Most of them are dead in my play through anyway, because it's extremely easy to break their quest lines if youre not using a guide. The areas don't really lead thematically into one another. And over all I don't feel any sense of urgency. DS1 and Bloodborne despite being cryptic had a clearly defined theme. DS1 was about the undead curse and loss of hope and that theme was reinforced in every bit of dialogue. Bloodborne was all about a city going to shit and things getting more and more alien as you went further. But DS3 just feels empty. I recall Miyazaki talking about a world covered in ash, where the fire is so weak that only embers remain. But I'm not really feeling it. The world doesn't feel all that different from what came before.

The more I play the game the more it reminds me of DS2. It has the same lack of thematic consistency and poor environmental storytelling. None of the areas show what happened there. There's nothing like seeing the flooded bodies in New Londo. Or coming across the ayylium statues before fighting Amelia and realizing there is something more to this Victorian world.

Im starting to think that whatever influence the Bloodborne team had came in very late in production. Some of the stuff has high level of polish. But the core premise just doesn't seem to have the same level of thought behind it that DS1 and Bloodborne had.

DaS2 had the most variety in sets, while most things look better in DaS3 helped by you not feeling quite so obliged to wear the heaviest stuff ever. DaS3 still has more variety going for it than DaS1 did, so at least it isn't the worst
