There are a finite amount of SP needed to ''master'' a ship, or occupation. After said point, SP doesn't matter
Say you need 10 million SP to master frigate/cruiser level ships. Then, after that, even if some dude got 100 million SP they won't contribute to his frigate skills. At this point, it's flying skill/experience/knowledge/fittings that matter, and not skill points.
Personally, i got perfect flying skills for caldari and gallente ships, but i PvP rarely so i'd probably get fucked hard by any regular PvPer, even with much weaker SP.
