I need someone to spoon feed me through the installation process.I read through a few different guides that more more or less the same and something goes wrong every time.I spent the entire morning installing it from scratch 5 times and getting an error that isn't accounted for every time.Am I fuckings stupid?probably

First issue:all the guides say to only extract the MDF files,but I can't mount disc 1 in particular unless the MDS file is present too.Does it matter if I extract the MDS files or can I not do this?

Cadet is notorious fickle about installing. You can copy the files from that FileCopy into your data folders as appropriate, but you won't be able to do that if you run into the error again. Make absolutely certain that all your system settings are japan. Not just region and not just locale, but everything from time to currency.

Your system remembers your previous installation. My guess is you removed the folder when something went wrong and didn't clean your registry.
Here's the registry entries you have to remove to amke your system forget about that installation. Then install as normal.

Try fixing your registry with the registry fixer in PB. Then remove it. And then reinstall it.
