So what class did Karl Marx & Friedrich Engels themselves belong to?

So what class did Karl Marx & Friedrich Engels themselves belong to?

Both, solidly middle-class bourgeois. It's actually a big part of their identity and undeniably shaped their lives and attitudes. The 18th and 19th centuries were very interesting times for the middle-classes.

Bourgeoise

Upper-class obviously.

"Socialism is for the rich, free enterprise is for the poor" - Gore Vidal.

Marx: Lumpenproletariat

So, is the middle class the most revolutionary class?

See the empty space before their first names? That means they weren't titled. So they're not upper-class they're middle-class. Engels was upper-middle class by virtue of his wealth.

If it wasn't for socialism, capitalism would've died in 2008.
Where did the money come to bail out the private banks?

You have no idea what you're talking about. You're light-years away from coherent political thought.

>government intervention fucks up and then fixes the economy
>FUCKING CAPITALISTS REEEE

Pretty astounding mangling of the meaning of that epigram.

I'm being ironic on purpose though.

I know that Vidal used that as a phrase to criticize the American style of capitalism, but it doesn't mean it isn't any less true in the context I used it.

>social democracy = socialism

Ancap retard detected

Ayy Lmao

Communism is a great way for a middle-/upper middle-class guy to manipulate a poor, uneducated population.

Karl Marx was intelligentsia, so proletariat.
Engels was petite bourgeoisie (his father was anyway), so bourgeoisie.

WE WUZ KEYNES N SHIIET

you are talking about collectivist oligarchy not communism. but the game is to make the first look like the second, the urss was good at this.

His father was proper bourgeoise, not just petite shit.

Also why do we use this awful goofy ass French word to describe capitalists, Jesus fuck.

>Also why do we use this awful goofy ass French word to describe capitalists, Jesus fuck.
Because French was the English of the 19th century just like how modern day non-English speaking academics lift words from English.

But their language is ugly as fuck.

And?

The useful idiot one

>Marx and Engels
>Useful idiots
For who exactly?

I wouldn't call Karl Marx bourgeois.

He was born in a Protestant yet ethnically Jewish family and was discriminated by his looks. During his youth he wrote for radical newspapers.

He lived in poverty with his aristocratic wife. Four of his children died very young.

Marx himself died stateless. There were only a few mourners in his funeral.

So no, I wouldn't call Marx bourgeois. This is only a right-wing meme.

>he was a Protestant and people made fun of him so he wasn't a burgie

Dude what

engels was the son of an industry owner, so he was bourgeois. engels never had to work a day in his life. he could've sat in his room counting his money, but instead he helped marx formulate his ideas/edit his works and created some interesting thoughts of his own distinct from marx.

marx himself held several jobs throughout his lifetime, mostly in journalism. since engels is his best buddy, engels allows marx to live at his estate for an extended period, where marx's living is paid off the backs of engels' daddy's factory. marx at this time did not have to work for a wage in order to live, so i suppose that he did not qualify as a proletarian during this time. but marx also didn't own any private property at this time, he simply lived thanks to the care of someone who did own private property. does that qualify as bourgeois? is a wife who doesn't formally own the company bourgeois so long as she benefits from the labor of the company? i don't know. i'm not particularly interested. i care more about marx's doctrine than his class.
