How long is the campaign and how many monsters will be in it?
I've been reading up on psychology in first person shooters and you get more aggressive with human enemies and I want Doom to be really aggressive.
12-15 hours apparently.
All the human enemies are weak as shit. The humanoid ones are stronger

Spider Mastermind. The brain is soft and squishy you can could basically jam it anywhere that isn't the mouth.
Reportedly offline snapmap can be done on the console version, but there probably isn't much point without access to the servers since people probably won't use anything else to share maps.

It's been discussed to death how SP is the main focus of the game with MP being a shitty corporate afterthought required by Beth. The main replay value is going to come from SnapMap, not Dead Space 2 multiplayer 2.0

That looks like a lot of beliefs based on corporate hype and not like facts you can verify in a released and finished game?
Especially since it relies on the assumption that people are going to use SnapMap extensively enough to keep the singleplayer alive, but for multiplayer it just has to be accessible and have a new map every month that the few SnapMap users will make.

What kind of snapmaps will you guys do? I've been thinking of a friendly Cacodemon escort mission.
This isn't a video of a vibrant mapping community, it's a video of a mapping program.
It's available in Snapmap singleplayer/coop maps as well if you're really desperate for it.
The stuff that messes with the game logic looks interesting but there hasn't been any footage of regular single player maps in Snapmap that don't look awful when compared to the campaign footage.

In Doom 1/2 you are almost never locked in, forced to fight monsters in a confinement. Most of the time you have a choice - you can retreat to restock supplies, run past them or engage. Doom '16 doesent give you such options, which makes it closer to Serious Sam and Painkiller than original Doom.

There are several different type of shoters qhere story is irrelevant - "Arena shooters" like Serious Sam and Painkiller where you are locked in the room with mobs regularily and have to kill them all to advance, and "Maze shooters", where you are free to explore the levels and have much more combat options, Doom, Duke, Quake are examples.

Devs like to bloat the number by pretending the player is completely retarded and sees mouse+kb for the first time, also takes all the time in the world to find collectibles and is terrible at doing so. "30 hour campaign" in dev speak usually means 10-13 hours of gameplay for sufficiently proficient player. It's like you're new to videogame industry in general.

the SP has the pistol, chainsaw, shotgun, SSG, Heavy Assault Rifle, chaingun, rocket launcher, plasma gun, Gauss cannon, and BFG
Every weapon except for the pistol and chainsaw can have mods
The point that guy was making is very rarely are you FORCED to stand and fight, speedruns involve skirting past monsters and avoiding a lot of combat, it's not often you're locked in a room to fight demons.
That being said, I don't mind how Doom 4's doing it, the closed off arena thing is more popular with AAA shooters if it's going for an "old school" style

My problem with that is when AAA shooters look back to Sam and Painkiller while calling names of Doom and Duke as inspiration.
Thanks for not being an asshat unlike the other dude, but I still disagree to some extent. I get the arena-thing, but I highly doubt D44M is as closed off as you think. We've seen how big the SP maps and snapmap maps can be. Why would they constantly lock the door behind you only to unlock it when the monsters are dead?
And speedrunning is a very specific and dedicated thing, so I wouldn't put that into part of the equation.
But Painkiller was great.
Painkiller was good. It's succesors sucked all the dicks though. I don't remember any shooter that has done arena fighting right ever since. Serious Sam doesen't count as it is more of a "horde management" shooter.
Being from the /vr/ doom threads, I try to be civil and nice with people in general. Especially when it comes to Doom.
I don't picture it being SUPER closed off, but the brunt of encounters WILL be closed off, they're going for a 5 point style score system while fighting demons, and there'll be the ocassional demon or few zombies, but the main focus of combat is gonna be in closed arenas, that way the devs can focus on arenas built for each encounter with platforms and shit to climb up on
