I blame the Balmung problem on Balmungs, but I do think the game as it's designed doesn't help things. Gil caps discourage transferring ever, and it's weird to transfer to a smaller server from a larger one when you can raise and gear an alt in a month if you're dedicated. Servers aren't any different aside from playerbases at their core too, so people want to be where the bulk is. Roleplayers funnel into Balmung, raiders funnel into Gilgamesh, and there's no outer visible reasons to go elsewhere if you decide to transfer from a mid or low pop to any server.

If we had some server designations of some point or transferring to smaller servers was easier than transferring to bigger ones we might see some changes in the population, but if my server died, I wouldn't be looking into some mid pops, I'd want to bring my progress with me to the top of the census because why not, I'm transferring anyways so why bother with a server I can roll an alt on.

Open in/Open for refers to the hunt window. Open in means the monster will spawn in x hours/minutes and be available for killing. Open for means the mob has already spawned and has not been killed.
