How the actual fuck do you deal with spears? I've only fought one seriously for the first time and I have no idea how. They cancel out to rolls so goddamn fast. You get anywhere near them and it's instantly pokes against your shield, you roll through them and they roll away instantly, you follow the roll and swing just as they come out of it and they slap you faster with their rolling attack than anything you can do, you ready a crossbow, backstep as they poke and fire, and they can STILL roll out of it fast enough to dodge with how much reach they have. There used to be some kind of drawback to them but now the attacks cancel stupid fast and the hitbox is wide as fuck. I just have no idea how to punish them if you don't have a great weapon with super armour.
I'm also having serious trouble where I try to hit before someone attacks and my weapon connects but then doesn't actually register for a quarter second and they stab me and we get hit simultaneously.

I unfortunately have a connection that does not give me phantom range on anything. Everyone else has the benefit of a weapon with 20% longer reach than me on every attack. The guy I fought rolled out of every single time I got in range, and one roll away was always enough to put him outside of my swing.
