it definitely looks interesting, and I like the music. But I think the voice over either is speaking too deeply. or whatever voice filters you put on him were a bit much. What type of gameplay are you aiming for? I am assuming more horror/mystery type.

you should use the best engine available for the language you're most comfortable with

if you don't know the answer, then you have a lot of work to do before you tackle a project like that

Gamemaker is most common for 2D games. It uses its own language, GML.

The consistency really is remarkable. I'm not trying to be mean or start shit when I say that I think they must be extremely lonely. I think this kind of effort has to come from a sense of "I'm entertaining my friends", and that is a really grim thought.

Yeah, Source truly is a tool of the mentally ill. I don't know what motivates Certain People to use it, but they have to be destroyed.

When you are designing your code on paper or in mind, you ask yourself how can I do X? With the design patterns, you think, maybe I can use pattern Y or Z. When you know them and have a problem just find the one that works, or read through the guides until you find one that poses the question that is similar to yours.

Also, I explain in another post, you should have a decent knowledge of programming. Game dev is a hard and time consuming hobby. Take your time and build to when you need the patterns.

I know I'm going to have to learn an engine first, but I figured I'd choose one that would suit my needs for when I was ready to actually make something.

You talk about this a lot, but no one has actually expressed any such feeling. Yet you continue to insist upon it, as if it's objective reality. Are you sure it's not you who's actually insane?

I haven't said this before, but I think it's true. And it's not insane to feel lonely, shitposter, but you should express it in more constructive ways, ways that will eventually make you feel better.

I get that it's at a very abstract level, but it's at a level so abstract that only the biggest moron wouldn't have come to those conclusions anyway, but again, it refers to stuff that someone new to coding may not necessarily understand, like forcing something to throw compile errors rather than just resolving to himself generate only one instance of a thing.

As a real example, back when I dicked around with JS and HTML5, I wanted to make an isometric game as an end goal and decided to start learning JS and HTML5 by making an isometric 2d grid with no elevation that knows what tile is being clicked on as my first "big" exercise. I only needed to draw all the lines once for tiles, so that would be a singleton. But all this talk of compile errors and the ways things are generated runs counter to my experience of simply doing the line-drawing once at the beginning of all my scripting instead of making a class for it or whatever. I don't need a guide on how to make my line-drawing thing a singleton, because in theoretical terms, it already is. If anything, I'd need design and technical help on making classes of things!

That would be UML, Data Structures and OOP architecture. Singleton is a very simple design pattern, there are many that are very complex in idea. With those ones people rarely stumble upon them by mistake.

Exactly, it seems like it would be the default for anyone getting into scripting or coding rather than something that would need a tutorial or design advice. It's natural for people to make over-detailed one-offs rather than modular systems with holes to plug.

I have tutored and taught programming, there are some people that don't really get far without constant guide. And sometimes people just never think of things.

I understand that, but I'm saying that your guidance is coming from where most people need to go, guiding to them to where they start. It's natural to write lots of singletons rather than classes -- few, if any, people need instruction on how to make a singleton. Let alone the sorts of memesters and pretentious /g/ posters that actually use the phrase "singleton"

Now I can make people wear equipment. Unfortunately, I only have swords in the game right now. But presumably the other slots work too. I have 10 more slots defined but I haven't added hitboxes for them yet. Enemies can technically wear equipment too, but I think I'm just going to hard-code all the enemy's damage/armor into its datatable row - most of them won't be humanoid anyway. At least the option is open if I want to do enemy equipment in the future.

Not sure what's next. I could spend the rest of the night looking up crappy free models of helmets, armor, gauntlets, etc. and adding in some default items for every slot. I could add the stat system to characters. I could write functions to get random items from the set of all items based on the difficulty of the enemy/location. I could try to start adding magic. I could polish the stuff I have already. Lots of options...

What should I work on for Sim Loli, AGDG?

* Optimize pathfinding

* Get car pathing to work again

* Add cops back in and work on their chasing AI

* Add in giving gifts to lolis and also do hunger/thirst/bladder/etc

* Make lolis "see" things, so if you throw something and they see it they'll ask you why you did it/bring it back to you or something. For throwing things this could be done as if they see (within sight distance/angle + not hidden) they look towards you where it came from, and if they see you they walk up to you and ask. Or there could be a chance they'll look at it then investigate you.

* Make lolis pick up thrown items if they find it interesting. some could also throw away trash if they see it and care about the environment

* Add more stuff into yard generation such as a path from the door to the sidewalk, and maybe driveways. Also additional buildings (attached or not) like garages, sheds, etc. Gardens, etc.

* Add in portraits to display the loli's current mood, and have there be temporary adjustments for when you impact a loli's mood.

* Make cars gravitate towards the center of the road to make driving less painful

* Adjust car specs to match the newer smaller tile sizes (divide everything by 2? maybe not that much?)

* Make loli's moods be affected by their surroundings when they're in the dungeon
