I checked them all and they all work.
Most of the time for me, the food goes to the middle Yokai. If you want to target a specific one, just kill all the other ones first then throw the food at it.

If i remember correctly you could pin the one want it to go to.
By default a youkai's favorite food will go to them.

Possibly a retard question but I have Cupistol in my team because he makes befriending Yokai easier, however does he need to be in the front three (actually fighting the Yokai) for it to work or does it still work if he's in the back 3 not actually fighting?

I kill the other two because if I target a Yokai I want to catch, I risk my own extremely powerful Yokai accidentally killing it before I have given it food.

if only that were so easy. If your yokai are speedy, then they may get the first strike regardless. The only thing I suggest is to make sure to pin while anyone is either in the middle of an attack or other animation that buys time, throw food, and unpin soon after.
