put them into dex/strength so you can change a ring for the ring of steel protection.

Almost a guarantee it'll happen if you do your first playthrough blind. Sirris' is especially easy to fuck up, as is Yuria's for the Lord of Hollows ending, Anri's can be very easy to fuck up the first time if you don't discover Smouldering Lake, Siegward's is very, very easy to fuck up since there's no guarantee you'll find Patches in time to realize that he has his armour and by extension Greirat will probably die in Irithyll since you probably won't expect to be able to save him with Patches and Siegward will be dead in a well.

In other words, don't feel too bad.

The lighting is weird because it's one of the only areas where even just for a moment you feel like you're in a "normal fantasy world" where everything is not imminently fucked, so it looks and feels really comfy and makes me wish for a Souls game that took place in a living world for once.
