You bet your ass it is. Apparently, the rolling R1 of the Astora Greatsword takes on the properties of its uncharged R2, including the attack power. Which makes it a stronger than normal R1 thrust attack. So when you combine that with the Leo Ring and fish for counter hits, you come out massively on top of every trade.

This, combined with it's already huge AR and stupidly low weight means it's easy to throw into a quality build for massive deeps at little cost. Also, a fully charged R2 counter hit with Leo Ring will one-shot most players, so there's that too.
