You have to be at 50 percent or lower to gain the speed boost though and you take mini crits while you have it out. Seems balanced to me.

Almost every melee in the game is an upgrade from stock, which is fair enough since stock melee is garbage.

In which case you use it like the Gloves of Running Urgently, have it out to get to the frontline quickly, then you swap it away before you get in danger. Or, use it to run to health packs when your health is so low that the mini-crits make no difference.

GRU at least has a 5 second lingering effect for the mini-crits. Escape Plan's mini-crits linger for only 1 second.

So if used correctly it is literally a free speed boost. It's called the escape plan rollout in comp.

Soldier's melee doesn't get used mostly because he's too slow on the ground to hit people with it, one of his only weaknesses. So what does Valve do? Make it increase his ground movespeed, taking away one of his only weaknesses. It's actually a better melee weapon than stock, even with the mini-crits, but it doubles as a free speed boost if you don't want to take that risk.

Last I checked /msg/, it was nothing but shitposting. I'll admit it's been like over a year since I've been there, though.
