air blocking causes attacks to be blocked, is safer, and doesn't need to be timed correctly. air dodging causes attacks to whiff, is invincible for a certain number of frames, and has startup and recovery frames where it can be punished, unlike air blocking. they're 2 different mechanics.

Look at this camera angle
Notice it's behind the player, and not set to the side like Tekken? That makes this not a fighting game, but a beat em up brawler, like Devil May Cry and Streets of Rage or Naruto Ultimate Ninja. The camera shifts a bit to the side when you go into melee mode, but it is still mostly behind your back, and it's done that way to emphasize production values because this is not a fighter where gameplay and visibility comes first.
Pokken also lacks a limb based combat system thus it is really limited in the ways you can attack.

Yeah, you get impatient too fast. Just abuse Ryus fast dashes to aproach on the ground if your oppenent expects jumpins (you can abuse j.lk anyway on characters without a solid aa). Also you sweep a little too much, it got some hits on me and I fucked up some punishes but you should still use it more sparingly. It's just a bad habit in the long run.
But it does have a side by side phase. It just switches.

I think you're wrong, and it's also more of a fighting game than smash is, a "competitive platformer".

It never completely goes into side view even in melee phase and it does not have a limb based combat system. It's not a fighting game and it is closer to something like halo than it is street fighter or tekken
