Play the scene, it comes straight after a question about her dad dies and he realises quite how bad it was to say straight after, even if it was entirely accidental the entire thing was incredibly insensitive, shes on the verge of tears and he starts interrogating and treating her like something to be fixed.

Emi's in the wrong if you choose to talk to the mother, Hisao is in the wrong if you get the kitchen scene. He's frustrated but he picks the worst possible time and does it in the worst possible way and before asking her about her dad he treats her like a child that needs fixing.

He just keeps pushing her when she's not in the right mental state, just because you're frustrated doesn't excuse the way he tries to solve it in that scene.
