i was kinda interested but i don't like fighting games that much

1. It's hard for the first few days, maybe even a week or two, especially for absolute beginners. I recall the Beginning I group was basically silent for the first week except for "Yes," "No," "My name is ___" and other basic phrases. But I promise your brain will adjust sooner rather than later and you'll start thinking in Japanese, which is pretty cool when you realize it. I occasionally had dreams where I would speak english and then panic that I'd failed.

While you're in your room, you can pretty much do what you want, though I would advise avoiding facebook or anything else with your name attached. I was on Veeky Forums then and it wasn't a problem. I'm not sure about smartphone use since I didn't have one at the time, but they'll clarify the do's and don'ts during orientation. Again, while you're alone in your room you're okay. No english music, though, so maybe stock up on Japanese music before you go. Be warned: the dorm walls are fairly thin.

2. It's a pretty big difference between the levels but don't worry if you list yourself as the wrong one. There's a placement exam and they'll place you where you belong.

It's alright as long as you don't take it too seriously. Pirate it or rent it and see if it's your thing. It's fun.

3. An average day (assuming not much has changed) starts with breakfast in the cafeteria: each language school sits together during meals, students and teachers in one area. Don't be afraid to talk to the teachers or your fellow students. Teachers are there to help you learn and they understand that you're just a student, so asking for clarification on literally any part of what they say is welcomed. They were all really friendly, too. Even the teacher who was really strict was incredibly fun out of class. Then it's four hours of classes, where you have (if I recall correctly) a general vocab/topics class, a grammar class, a kanji class, and a speaking class. Each week has students give graded presentations. You get a good chunk of homework each day, so that's a good opportunity to work and study with your classmates and get to know them. You don't have to hang out with them, but I highly recommend it and hanging with students in other levels as well.

After classes there's lunch, where you can get a jump on work or just relax and save work for later in the night. Dinner is served in a similar matter, but eating in the cafeteria during these times is optional. However, it is also the only subsidized food you get, so I'd try to eat in the cafeteria at each mealtime. The campus is very hot in the summer so I recommend bringing a reasonably sized fan.

There are lots of events during each week, including karaoke, movies, and costume parties, as well as class plays written by each level. There are a lot of different clubs: a cappella groups, calligraphy, fitness, rakugo, and more. People are weeaboos for the most part but they're not like the usual weeaboo. They're people who want to learn earnestly, work hard, and don't just romanticize Japan. Like you, they come across pretty normal. If try your best, exercise patience and humility, and don't give up when things get tough, you'll do great.

One, we may be heading towards a new Waifu War Arc. Like El Nino, it seems to have a 'come and go' effect. if the thread survives, and should people from /a/ or /v/ get drawn here, the conditions will be perfect.

Two, there's a low chance for a Newfag Arc. It's possible that normies from Facebook will hear about us, and think we are similar to the Naruto forums or Facebook page. They will flock here in droves. I hope for this Arc to come through, as we will finally have a common enemy, and will work together to either crush them completely, or hammer them into shitposting weeaboos who hate the series as much as we do. Is he constantly in your face? Try counterattacking (block+shuriken) a bunch
Is he subbing really quickly? Try throwing shuriken in the heat of the fight to make them burn a sub.
If you catch someone in a combo and they sub, you can switch characters to keep the pressure on.
Don't give up man. There's plenty of ways to git gud at this game, just find something you like. I got bodied by fucking TENTEN earlier this weak with a strategy I've even never seen before. It's all in how you look at it.

Thanks for that, hearing the truth that it will hurt helps me not to feel like I'm doing it wrong since other people seemingly can work out and still do normal shit. I'll devote some time to starting some push ups or squats in my room, also some dumbbell work. It's a bit easier since college hasn't started yet.

Here's the thing though - it'll hurt, and hurt, and hurt...and then it won't. But that's when you up the weight, or the reps, or the sets. The rule of thumb is if it hurts, it works. Not hurting means your not pushing yourself, which means your improvement is stalling or stagnating.

That being said, you MUST learn the difference between a workout muscle ache, and an actual injury. Working out with a serious injury is a sure-fire way to fuck yourself up for weeks or months.

Chart your progress week on week. Do the absolute MAXIMUM number of pushups you can do in an allotted time - even if you need to take a small break part way through. Then, the next week, look at that number and say 'Alright. I'm gonna add one to that'. Then make it fucking happen. You can't do it? That's fine. Note down where you got to, and try again next week.

I'm almost always in-thread, so I'll be checking up on you from time to time. You'll know it's me.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, also sorry this response is so late. I've actually been studying with some classmates for my Japanese exam.

Knowing more about how things work there makes me feel a lot better about it, like I'd actually be able to do it. From what you've described some parts seem a fair amount like the Japanese course that I've been in for the last two semesters so I feel like maybe I'm more prepared than I think I am, or at least maybe I wouldn't fuck up as bad as I think I would. I mean the course I've been taking has been pretty brutal and I haven't given up yet so I think this is something I'd be able to do.

Another part of me also can't stop thinking that for the price I could just go to Japan for 8 weeks and take a class there, but of course that's not a structured environment designed to teach you Japanese.

But hearing that you had a good experience and how much you benefited from it makes me feel pretty excited by the idea of doing it myself.

So, first character for the one-shot - callsign Talos, from clan [redacted], Konohagakure.

A stealth specialist, Talos works, strikes and lives in the shadows. He's remarkably quiet, and his killteam know that he rarely partakes in the idle chatter of pre-mission preparation or during downtime. That doesn't mean they don't like him - the three other members of Killteam Gladius have been saved by Talos more times than they care to count, an enemy's blade turned aside at the last second by his wakizashi, Talos launching himself from the shadows where, only seconds before, there had been no one at all.

As a veteran member of Killteam Gladius, Talos has the honour of arming himself however he sees fit. As such, he equips himself with a punch dagger, a ten-inch blade strapped to his right forearm with a spring-loaded launching and retracting mechanism. He also carries a wakizashi shortsword, its blade honed razor sharp. Alongside his pimary and secondary weapons, he also carries the usual shinobi complement of kunai and shuriken, but swaps out some of them to fit several explosive tags, as even the master assassin can make mistakes and requires an...explosive solution.

Like the other members of his killteam, Talos wears a reinforced shinobi flak jacket, with chain links sewn over the chest and back. His most prized possession, however, his is weighted Chameleonic Cloak. Never saying where he picked up the centuries-old archeotech, the Chameleonic Cloak takes his already innate skill in stealth to the near-supernatural, allowing him to move like a ghost amongst enemies, leaving bodies in his wake.

Talos has three abilities - Dash Cut, a quick teleport and instant-kill with his Chameleonic Cloak and punch dagger, Sneak Attack, giving him extra damage when attacking an already-engaged target, and Genjutsu: Walk the Eternal Midnight Path, making his enemies believe he is cloaked in darkness, increasing his stealth and instilling fear into them.
