Vehicles are the only thing I miss. Forge was always shit though, I guess if you're the kind of guy that likes Minecraft I can see the appeal. Custom games are kind of a no brainer though, I agree. But the amount of build variety and weapon perks is a bit staggering, Halo got very stale quickly, and as you moved up in matchmaking people only used the same 2 weapons (BR, Sniper)

I forgot to add map design, maps were quite large, Blood Gulch being my favorite. But without vehicles it would slow down gameplay too much
