can someone explain the purpose of overwatch if VAC works? if someone is cheating and they get reported VAC bans them, but even if they're cheating and not reported VAC should still ban them. so the person watching overwatch doesn't actually do anything. the only way it would matter is if the game just assumes everyone is innocent and doesn't even check through VAC until enough confirmed reports happen

I don't understand though, VAC banned someone I played against after a game yesterday so clearly there's some sort of detection that doesn't rely on reports, but then what is the purpose of the reports? the only answer I can think of is that it's set up so that you can hack all you want until you're reported enough but I'm sure if this was the case way more people would be trying to hack thinking they'd get away with it

I read someone getting banned and claiming to be innocent (surprise) and everyone was saying that overwatch alone can't get you VAC banned, you have to actually be caught by VAC itself for that

If VAC detects something you get a VAC ban.

If you get overwatch banned you get an overwatch ban.

VAC is completely automated.
Overwatch is completely demo-review based.

VAC will detect software hooking into CSGO's code and tick a box on valve's servers, a random amount of time later they will get VAC banned. If it's really blatant cheating stuff you will instantly get an Untrusted ban, which will kick you from the server forever until you get your VAC ban and it shows up on your profile. It's like a vac ban but instant. Inv is still locked when you get untrusted.

Overwatch takes reported player's demos and runs them through 10-100 community overwatch reviewers, if they agree that the guy is cheating a VALVE employee watches it and decides if they get banned or not.

OW bans do the same thing as a full VAC ban, you can't join VAC secured servers or trade items. Just says (1) OW Ban On Record instead of (1) VAC Ban On Record in your profile.
