So, what's up with Carl's house? On his route it's pretty evident that there's something going on there, possibly someone invading it, and on Leo's route Jenna easily invades it, too, only to find that Carl is nowhere to be seen.

I think he may be hallucinating due to lack of social contact and drug abuse. There is a side story "exclusive to Patreon" (already leaked, see u18 thread) where he has a bad trip triggered by LSD use and thinks he killed Chase when he crashed his car.

Maybe on Leo route he is in the basement?

They didn't check the basement, did they? I wonder if whatever happens to Carl in Leo's route also happens in all the other routes.

I don't think so, Howly said that each route work as its own. Probably we will see some routes stuff being clarified in another one though. For example, the flashback were kid Leo beats the fuck out some bullies in Carl's route.

I was actually wondering, in another visual novel (spoiler: it's Virtue's Last Reward) there is a Schrödinger's Cat mechanic, where choosing a certain option may change things that happened in the past. It'd be interesting if, depending of the route you chose, the reason why Sidney died would be different. Maybe he wouldn't be even dead a all.

He acts like a jerk, but from what I've seen from him on Leo's route (he worries a lot about Carl, tries to warn Chase about Leo's craziness and wants to talk about Sidney) and from his own route, he seems to be a surprisingly complex character, possibly one of the most functional of the cast.

I'm curious about Jenna's route because, on Carl's, we learn that Jenna's family was important to the founding of Echo, so I guess it must be related somehow to the incident Chase is supposed to investigate.
I think we'll get many explanations on her route.
I also want to know exactly *how* crazy Leo is. I want to know what happened on his perspective.
Based on what I read on the story posted, I do sympathize with Leo. But we don't know everything that happened.

Morenatsu and Echo both strongly associate all characters to the story's theme (Morenatsu's about a nostalgic return to an idyllic childhood setting, Echo's about an exhausting and complicated visit to the place you hate with the people you love). And since all characters were created around this theme, they all fit the story. They are either your childhood friends, their family members, your bullies, etc.

So, I happen to be writing a game design doc for a VN. It's going to be a small project, with only two main characters, one narrator and a cast of unseen secondary characters. And the themes are "loss" and "weight". All characters have gone through some serious personal loss, which happened a few years before the story starts, and now they carry some serious emotional weight on their backs.
So, in other words, my VN is going to be full of people who've gone through some shit and are slightly messed up because of it.
