GYAO! is a website part of Japanese Yahoo, where you can watch many Japanese shows and anime officially added by their respective creators, I don't know if it works outside of Japan, but I would assume so.

Oh yeah, one last thing I forgot to mention. Will you be using the nicknames from NISA's translation? Personal preference but I wasn't a fan of them at all, especially Taka's, and rather just keep their full names intact.

Maybe depending if the Hagakure novel has any relevance in Hiro's story for DR3. Though I doubt the Captives will appear besides maybe Komaru.

Though if Hiro dies.... maybe then they could do something with Kanon.

That's a good question, having played the Japanese version and then only playing english in the PC versions of the game. (Because they were the only versions up until I made the mod for Japanese for both games.)
I was very confused from a lot of terminology, so I think I will not include those nicknames like "Hina" or "Taka".

The terminology question was a big one I was hoping to ask you, and since there a currently 3 translation that ended up being popular (the Something Awful LP translation, the Project Zetsoubou PSP translation, and the official NISA one), and all of them use different things so I don't know how to compromise with this one.

I mostly prefer the SA LP, since that was the one I read first, although i'm familiar with the others as well since i've gone through all the current translations from the first two games. But i'm sure most people are only familiar with NISA's at the moment since it's the most recent one.

I agree with you there, for example, the SA LP seems more accurate to me, in my opinion.

Personally I feel a mix of the SA LP and Nisa version would be best. SA was translated by a guy who didn't natively speak Japanese or English and IIRC based it on a chinese translation(or he WAS chinese? Something like that.) So there was a lot of flaws/fuck ups in that one.(The biggest that comes to mind is referring to Chihiro's talent as 'Hacker')

I'm very fluent in Japanese, so I can mix terms,for example, I might keep a few things like "Ultimate" or "Future Foundation".
But some things I might change, like the trial feature names such as "Rebuttal Showdown" or "Logic Dive".

"Ultimate" is shit, Super High School Level is the better term, regardless of what Nisa/Spike Chunsoft thinks is best. Future Foundation's fine, I don't think anyone's against that one.

The trial names always bugged me personally.
I preferred the name "Climax Interface" or "MTB" in the first game, but NISA/SC changed it to Closing Argument and BTB, which made no sense to me, sorta.
But I guess I can keep the trial terms.

Yeah, I liked the SA LP in the end because of that, even if the prose wasn't the best. The PSP translation is kinda, idk how to word it, too weeb? It sometimes doesn't translate certain words for no reason, and Super Duper High School and use of memes is kinda cringewrothy. It has some nice prose most of the time.

NISA's is all over the place, any and all japanese references was taken out, the nicknames, changes in terminology were pretty weak and stale like "Ultimate" and "The Tragedy," or even some of the talent names; Affluent Progeny is a gigantic mouthful. Why is Ishimaru's Moral Compass when it was originally about keeping order in the school? Also Mondo's clue on "dude" when it was originally about keeping it a gender neutral pronoun, which is why nobody would have noticed it as easily.

It ends up coming off as really weird.

It's a tough call on what you want to change or keep from which translation.

Oren based it on his playthough and just translated along. I think someone help him later one behind the scenes and was able to hack the game, so he was able to use the script later. He used a different process for his SDR2 LP, as he got somebody who was fluent in English to help him along.

I do remember him mention a Chinese playthough, but that was something unrelated to his translation. I think he was just saying that there was one Chinese playthrough and talking about how LP's aren't that popular in the east and most don't go over the first case so that people could experince the game for themselves.

In the first game the titles aren't mentioned all that often, dunno about the second game. As for the trial names, I like 'Closing Argument' better, but I prefer MTB as well. I'm just curious what was wrong with logic dive or rebuttal showdown in particular.

Yes but the point stand Oren didn't know fluent japanese or english, which is kind of important when it comes to translations. When presented with a translation, I'd like to know the translator is fluent in one of the languages he's translating from or to. Speaking of Chinese though, I don't think either of the DR games got proper chinese releases, but both the PSP Japanese releases and the English Vita releases are available to them to buy, which is strange.

Well, they don't call it Rebuttal Showdown in Japanese, they simply call it Cross Swords, same for Logic Dive, they call it Dive Drive, similar to what the soundtrack states, or at least the Japanese one.
It's not a big deal really.

So I gave decided that once I complete all their intros, I'll change all the terminology.
I'll also revert the UI of the second game and give back the "8-bit" feel the Japanese versions had.

If it makes it even better, I can use my PC Japanese Restoration project as reference.

Don't get me wrong, I do agree with you on Oren's LP having some problems with the language barrier for him and is shows in the earlier chapters. He even went back to redo some of them because they weren't up to par from his later stuff.

I also agree with preferring Closing Argument and MTB to their alternatives.
