a lot of people like it. pretty much any tekken where mishimas are clearly top tier was a great tekken game. the movement was nice and smooth, music was great, stages were atmospheric, the new characters were neat.
the only problem, if you can call it one, is that it was a game where the better player always won, and given tekken has quite a bit of legacy skill dependence as is, it was pretty daunting to get competitive at it. it wasn't uncommon for top players to have literal 75%+ win rates on multiple characters (most notably, qudans 90% win rate on devil jin with 10k games).
the thing is that ttt2 isn't balanced around solo play. also, the way you have to play the game changes quite a bit when you're the 2 in the 1v2. giving rage based on health must be taken into consideration, and you rarely want to tag assault pre-50%. you also must take full advantage of tagging in and out, but every time you do, it's a big risk if the opponent has tag punishes and tag crash baits on point. it's a very weird back and forth, but when the solo player is winning, it's pretty hard to mount a comeback simply because of the damage output and the fact that they recover red life when they aren't taking damage.
tekken 7.0 was received great by newer and casual players, but most top players don't really love it like the previous games. but that's not uncommon; most initial arcade versions of tekken were pretty bad regarding competitive gameplay (5.0, 6.0). the update looks amazing in terms of gameplay, but i don't like some visual changes (stage lighting filters). i also personally love the music (tekken has always been edm, not all tekken music is t5dr music).
