As you can see in a video, it goes on CD right after you click it. If you move or get interrupted while channeling, it's wasted completely.

Same actually goes for all stones up to solid or dense stone. I always just vendor/craft blasting powder out of the ones I mine. Even iron ore is dirt cheap.

I guess you never played much WoW? Druid has always been overpowered in pvp in vanilla and BC, just druids are so good at crying about other people's classes they always managed to incite the crowd against others and never got nerfed themselves.
