Repostan (the short version):

Switched from cakes to luma, MHX won't boot (nintendo loading screen hang) whereas it worked/works fine when going through cakes. PSMD and MH4U (cart) both boot fine. Lumas is launching through the provided menuhax boot file in the 5.5 download.

I've tried using the language setting thing, the clock settings, NTR, bringing in the cia's from one of the troubleshooting steps on the wiki. None of these work. I'm at a total loss for what the fuck is causing it not to boot when I'm in lumas.

Do you have Luma3DS.dat in the root of your SD card? I think you need it for games that trigger a reboot, like MHX.

Yep, that's why I'm bitching about it here instead of trawling gbatemp or whatever. From what little I did find I got the same as you, it should be crapping out when I try to boot MH4U as well, but it loads just fine. The only thing I can think of is that somehow in some way the eng patch for MHX is interfering with something.

If I can't solve it I'll just leave it, get a9lh done and grab MHG when it properly comes out. I sorta don't want to leave it though incase it's indicative of problems in the future.

if you followed it you should already have fbi which is what you use to install games, holding start on boot now will launch hourglass9 which is pretty much the same thing as decrypt9 just more noob friendly

Using my 3DS for the first time in a while but I have to update emuNAND to play online. I use rxTools, is it safe to update through emuNAND like how it was done before? or is rxTools obsolete now

I've been out of the scene for literally 5 months my man, someone else would be better served to give you the technicals. I'm just updating because my old setup is that old and apparently a9lh with lumas is the hot shit.

2. you now launch decrypt9 or hourglass from boot because you can only launch it from 9.2 and under or from a9lh

So I'm following the Plailect guide right now. I'm on the 3rd section.

I'm starting to think none of this is really worth it. It seems like a lot of work and upkeep. I wasn't planning on doing much with this other than get Kirby and Smash so I can co-op with friends who don't have a 3DS. I was going to continue purchasing games on my N3DS either way.

My question is, is there a point of no return on this? Can I just stop doing all this and update to the latest firmware or will I get fucked?

The "point of no return" is when you format your SysNAND to unlink (part 3, step 21). You can still return with the sysnand.bin backup you made at the end of part 2, but it'll be a bit harder, and if you just randomly decide to update before restoring it then you'll be screwed out of your old data.

Yeah, pretty much. If you get to the end of part 4 then you have to finish part 5 to get a properly usable 3DS. At any point before the end of part 4 (before your SysNAND is 2.1), you can update to the latest version with nothing other than lost data, lost opportunities for hacking and an SD card with 1GB of space gone (which you can clean off with a partition manager on your PC).

If I already have stuff set up I can just skip to section 4 in the a9lh guide yeah? Or are there special considerations to make, my sysNAND and emuNAND are still sitting on 9.2 but the end of the section previous to that mentions updating emuNAND through system settings, will that break anything I have set up or are tools etc. mostly version independant?

Everything improves over time. Eventually something will come along which will make you want to fiddle with your 3DS some more to set up but since you've already got a CFW, changing it isn't a problem (especially with a backup in case you fuck up). Luma is now the 3rd CFW I've set up on my 3DS and though setting up A9LH when I was already using a working EmuNand with Cakes was a pain, it was perfectly doable. I just had to start over, basically.

I'm using TubeHax on Primary and that other DNS on Secondary with auto-update disabled. Hopefully I'm safe.

What exactly do you think they're gonna ban? They can't ban the IP because dynamic IPs, they can't ban the console ID because they're not getting any, and they can't ban the NNID because it's not required. There is literally nothing they can do, especially since the downloads of those pirated games and legit games look the exact same on their servers.
