For the older stuff if you go back to where biggs and wedge are you can run one of them off with a chocobo and get stuff like diamond armor and black garbs

For the Necrohol of Nabudis I think you can get there through the forest right now. It links to a lot of areas but I think that's the earliest point. There's aegis shield, maximillian and a bunch of other shit there. Also if you have a Samurai you can get the Masamune pretty soon and can make the Blood Sword A as well. If you don't get the Masamune soon you'll have to fight Gilgamesh to get to it

If you want to know how to keep him: There'll be a scene where you need to escape an area with a time limit. Once you reach the end, don't leave and wait for the timer to run out. Do this and you'll get him, if you don't he'll be gone forever.

I dunno what to say user, I guess different parts of the game are tough for different people/parties. Ever since I committed to some jobs for each character its been pretty straight forward. Some of the bosses have been annoying but ever since Belias almost one-shot my whole team, nothing has been too threatening. I'm sure something will show up though.

Some good rages for him are Feral Cat, Yojimbo, Magic Urn, Rafflesia. Check a Rage guide out for him, Gau has the potential to be one of the strongest characters.

If you're playing the NES version, you can pull off Wind God Gau.

For a new player that's tedious bullshit though, and he's not that fun to use.

Picking up Feral Cat takes like 2 seconds. I use that Rage 99% of the time

After you suicide him you can get another one.

I guess, but that's the only good one you can actually get on your first time. Returning just to get Templar or whatever is just dull. Good if you want to grind gil I suppose.

Using Tier 2 spells while Terra and Celes are still using Tier 1 is pretty good, though.
