I visited Fromsoft a couple days ago in Sasazuka (currently in Tokyo for a manufacturing workshop) and asked them what Poise did in the game directly. Basically said I aint leaving till I get an answer, they have no way to stop me from hanging around because they have no active guards.

They said that poise does 3 things and they intentionally left it out of descriptions because they wanted people to figure it out themselves:
1)
>the more poise you have, the less your thrust absorption drops during an action
2)
>the more poise you have, the more or heavier hit/s you can tank during a weapon art without being stunned out of it
3)
>Poise priority when trading with an opponent who also has hyper armour and or great weapon, aka 2 UGS swinging at each other, the one with the higher poise will not stagger while the other will and be awarded the combo

Went intot aduel agains a fulll catarina set zwei user against my Veeky Forums set which has around 17 poise I'm pretty sure catarina beats mine out and when trading it was hit or miss who was awarded the combo since my dragonslayer greataxe could get 2 in while he was swinging and sometimes he would get two in while I was swinging

The switch is 0 by default and turns on under certain circumstances. Manually switching it "on" is basically the same as turning on infinite iframes.

One thing I am certain Poise does is that is affects your ability to take a hit at the end of a roll. So if you get hit as your you're getting back on your feet, instead of getting staggered, you take a hit and minor damage but you maintain your motion I'm not sure if that is all its does but i have noticed this more when i wear good armor

The total max poise you can possibly get in the game with the biggest armour and 2 yhorms shields is 80 something poise, currently.

If the decimal was moved over, it would be .8. Just shy of the full 1 "always have poise" total.

It would seem to me poise originally was going to be very wide and flexible, but you could NEVER get max passive poise, just very close to it with the most extreme setup.

Now it's basically useless by design. They probably found that washingpoles and estocs would just sit behind yhorms shield in testing for even MORE assrape than they currently dish out so they decided against poise at the last second.

so I'm playing dark souls 1 for the first time, how much poise do I want for just walking around? I want that fastroll and all of my light stuff gives me zero, and being stunlocked by basic hollows is just embarassing

From what I understand:

This is what led to that retarded "poise damage affects the amount of iframes you have" theory. It's not clear why it turns on during iframes, but it's not that. The only reasonable idea is that they wanted you to be able to take poise damage during rolling, even if you can't be poise broken during it.

You can take poise damage during hyper armor, but it doesn't actually get you staggered out of it. It could also be related to it checking your poise during Halberd and Greatsword attacks, even though 0.1 poise is all you need for that to work.

This seems to be pretty much the only circumstance where your poise can actually get you poise broken.

It's a pretty stupid system, but it does seem to actually be how they want it.

BB general was created because console fanboys and PC autists kept shitposting in /dsg/ before it was released. There was never a logical reason to separate the generals.

For now, it still has it's own general, but people are obviously going to discuss it here since it's a Souls game. Eventually, /bbg/ will die out and this will be the only place to discuss it, just like Demon's Souls and King's Field.

Crossbow's are among the most OP thing in the videogame. If you ever go up against someone with weapon + crossbow combo, you're likely fucking dead

BB is made by the same company, same director, has the same mechanics, etc. None of those come close.

That said, I don't see why you couldn't talk about Nioh if you are doing so in comparison to the Souls games.
