I've been playing Stellaris for a short time, and I just discovered a perfect biosphere (for my race) planet in a neighboring solar system.

My question is, how do you advance into new territory, if it's relatively close? Do you build defense stations and ground garrisons on every colony planet; or do you 'gotta go fast' everything in sight with 2-3 science vessels until you run into a possible hostile empire? I watched a YouTube video where a guy got shrekt because his main fleet got defeated, and he had to keep making retreat jumps into his home territory, but didn't have enough defense stations set up.

I'm playing as Avians with laser weapons, and I currently just have 1 science vessel with 1 corvette escort (plan to make more), and I have 4 corvettes guarding my homeworld. Another thing, do science vessels need escorts?

I scout with military ships first. Science vessels go alone.

I set my corvette to follow my science vessel.

You can't actually group it into a fleet, apparently; but it still follows it.

And they can usually get away from travel when they reach new systems.
Might be good to sen a scouting corvette fisrt though so you don't lose the scientist on board.

Federations seem a bit, I guess not overpowered per se because you can always get the tiny chucklefuck nation who declares war on fucking everybody when they become Federation president, but in every game I've played the first Federation to form pretty much makes the rest of the galaxy its bitch.

You could lose scientists with bad luck. Also preliminary scouting which is much faster identifies priority systems (habitable planets) for science scouting. Other system you could research latter. And science vessels don't waste time away from monsters.

The game was only under Heinrik (?) because they needed someone with the experience to head the project as Paradox used the Stellaris and HoI4 releases to put as much pressure through their streaming and marketing campaigns. Switching back over to Martin "World of Warcraft Developer" Anward is congruent with their patching policy because like Firaxis, they someone how believe that individuals from the huge teams that make MMOs can somehow function effectively within a tiny-ass company of an entirely different gaming genre.

Next you'll discover that a military government (the one with the huge bonus of reduced ship maintenance) which also allows you to enslave others makes it even better. Conquer a fuckton of planets from those around you and divide them into slave sectors with governors who gives the slavery bonus.

Not only will you blob hard, but you will also make a huge fucking fleet and still end up having more resources than you can ever spend.

When will they make it possible to access your sector stocpiles? I'm full 3d reich warmode atm, with the whole added benefit of having serious resource problems

Literally thank fucking god I had so much doubt about it and didn't actually do it. I'm a huge HOI3 fan (1.5k+ hours) and I got bored on the 3rd hour. There's absolutely no content in that game and playing a minor in South America feels exactly like playing any other country - there's no country-specific flavor either. There's no special units for Jungle, no elite light infantry, the "technology" is somehow even shallower than vanilla HOI3, and don't even get me started on the rest of the shit like the puke they call a map. How can a company fuck up THAT hard?

So a planet that I have been monitoring for a while finally reached the Space Age and are now currently independent. The problem is that they are in the middle of my territory and I already have a colonized planet in said system. Should I just instantly subjugate them or leave them be?

Should've infiltrated them to prevent that. Always infiltrate such planets when they reach the industrial age
