Canceling into MAX is almost as important in 2002 and 14.
A mechanic that let you get combos in situations where you wouldn't normally get them is common in KoF games.

Pretty much every game uses the top row for punches and bottom for kicks. I struggled with k and p at first too. But you're right, it makes sense for the game.

Because K and S are your basic pokes and P is more for mashing out or using 6P.
Reminder that if you don't play Cammy in SFV, most of your wins came off gimmicks since Cammy is the only honest character in this game.

Multiple reasons
First is the gatling order P->K->S->HS->D
With the default layout you press the button in the following order
2 3 4
1 X 5
It makes a nice arc and is easy to follow with your fingers. If you switch them around you get
1 3 4
2 X 5
You lose the arc and there's no continuity or line between the button presses.
Then keep in mind you often skip P anyway because 2K is your universal low and sometimes 6K is an overhead, so the order goes
1 2 3
X X 4
Again easy to follow, but if you switch P and K
X 2 3
1 X 4
Now that's just fucking weird
K is rarely used alone, whether it's used for apoke, blockstring or combo, it's often chained into something else so it has a good placement to chain with other buttons. Meanwhile P is often mashed by itself so it has a good placement for that too.
It's rather hard to rely on reactions in sfv's netcode + 8 frames of input lag.

nigga i didn't say anything about cross-up dps. She has ambiguous crossups and is one of the best shimmy characters combined with a meterless invincible dp. That ain't honest.
The most honest character is Zangief. He lives and dies off of reads and is fucking slow and generally terrible in all aspects besides damage and health.
