Should I be trying to cover choke points by firing torpedoes into an area, or should I actually be trying to hit the enemy?

You can't really ever tell if people are going to go between islands or sail past them or round a corner / pass by since people are crazy and unpredictable so just lay out your torps in a wall and hope for some hits. I'm no expert though.

How could anyone hit anything with torpedoes in WW2 anyway? They're slow as fuck and all that prediction means nothing if the enemy ships change speed or direction.

They depend on either a certain degree of surprise, massed attacking or fairly close range. They were very useful and effective for damaging large vessels and provided options.

Once again i had to witness a Kongo (our) vs a random cruiser (enemy), the cruiser was near stationary at 7 km and utterly destroyed the Kongo with torps and guns.

My theory is that BB shares the same demography as Hummer drivers.

The best ships for practising torps are the IJN DDs, because you can remain undetected and focus on torps solely.

The only time you should be firing torps blind is when you are trying to flush a DD out of its smoke. Of course, if someone else has spotted a ship that's out of your LOS, that's not blind: if the enemy is coming around a corner towards you that's the perfect opportunity to launch some unavoidable torps (and a great way to play low- and mid-tier US DDs, due to their short range torps).

The aim indicator is perfect for ships that are maintaining a constant course and speed. For ships that aren't, you need to adjust your aim. Try locking on to ships as they manoeuvre (they don't have to be in torp range for this) and watching the aim indicator swing to get a feel for how it works. When ships are bow on, the required firing solution can change wildly, so it's only a viable shot at extreme close range.

fubuki has 10km torps which are noticeably better than 15 -> 12 with ta ones and yet again, 8 km is too low for bucky

for t9-10... only if you use 20 km torps which were heavily nerfed

Langley's fighter wings absolutely dominate Hosho's. They only way Hosho can keep up is to strafe, which may be what happened to your fighters.
