To make matters better I just had an NPC shoot me when I was driving past and it exploded my rig. Yet the logs didn't say I had a gastank rupture or anything.

If it makes you feel better I killed myself by knocking down an empty window frame, and when I checked the logs, it checked out as an actual explosion, rather than the building collapsing.

Any non-ego items, ego are often vulnerable to some but not all, I believe almost all artifacts are invulnerable to the elements but can be hit by disenchantment damage.
