Truly this would be the ultimate despair. The great hero makoto dies in a gutter before the true fight even begins. No battle to the death against nagito and whats left of despair, no conquering the corrupt future foundation. No the great pinnacle of hope, makoto naegi, is dead.

If this takes place after DR3, it would be revealing that not only does Naegi die, but that the Ultimate Boxer survives, and the Future Foundation keeps on going. If DR3 is to be the finale of this story, it would be absolutely bizarre to release a manga that takes place after that before it even happened.

Regardless of all the reasons why it would be a weird creative decision, I think the timeline is pretty well established in this page.

No you're right, this takes place before DR2. All this is is a prequel to give us some insight to the future foundation. With any luck we'll see how they captured the ultimate despairs.

That feels out of the scope of this manga, because any Ultimate Despairs that Takumi runs into are likely to end up dead, not captured.

Yeah, the gore and way that Takumi kills people is over the top in a totally different way than any of the violence in the games.

If this were true kodaka should've had all the silhouettes in DRAE be actual people with faces and wounds.

I think that was more of a design decision instead of a way of keeping the rating lower.

The Ultimate Despairs may not have been "capttured", since they were believed to simply be survivors of Hope's Peak when they were found by the Future Foundation, and it was only later that they found out the truth.

From what I read from the tai chat, people are screening characters and making adjustments.

The amount of participants have been meet, now its just a polishing period. I look forward to see how this ends be it great or not.

We need that one game to get the ball rolling and to start the creative process on how to improve the next.

So it may be a bit messy, but I encourage people to stick to it for experience sake.
