One of the things I pride myself on is having nostalgia for the genuinely pretty shit game Dead Rising.

It shows how much of a real gamer I am that I spent my time getting every single achievement in that game because middle school me thought it was so good.

Think less about how much fun it was to fuck around and kill zombies forever and more about how fucking annoying it was to kill Psychos and escort survivors having to stop and set a rally point every 5 seconds. Most of the mechanics in that game were trash even though it's my 3rd favorite game of all time.

yeah but there's a difference between taking a character that's a scumbag or a petty criminal or just has a violent nature and making them a fully realized person with emotional depth and multiple layers of feeling without contradicting that, and just trotting out the ol' 'they LOOK like this, but they're ACTUALLY this, wow!'

That was literally the best part though, when DR3 threw away the stress of the whole game. It just made it stupid.

The tension and the planning is what makes the disparate elements of the game work, it would just be an ok sandbox without those elements there to make it into an engaging game.

True. I don't think we'll ever get a real psycho in a Persona game unless they're a real villain. Reminds me of the people who were upset that the P5 crew turned out to not be REAL thieves, robbing and holding up banks or something.

It was just a rough time having to plan out specific routes to take when having to rescue literally every single survivor for Saint, even the ones that don't show up in your missions, then having to deal with the shit AI along the way. The gameplay was fine but its execution was rough and showed its "early 360 game" nature.
