You're an LA with a shotgun, learn to flank if possible. Don't take part in huge fights unless it's a tower / biolab with even pop and you can get inside somewhat safely.

Get the jump on people if possible, if there is a group of enemies; flash and then go in, also aim better.

Shotguns are shit no doubt, but you can make them work in certain situations.

Slugs are only good just past the range where shotguns start to lose effectiveness. Equip either a 1x or a 4x scope depending on if you're going indoors or outdoors, aim down sights at all times even at point blank, only fire once the aim resets at longer ranges. obviously try to aim for headshots since headshots are a 2 hit kill at any range IIRC

At the ranges where the slugs turn your shotgun into a mini semiauto sniper rifle, they have so much drop and move so slowly that you're only going to be hitting maxes, spitfire turrets and Gustavo

I took this screenshot a few weeks ago. 33/33/32 split, NC has 0 victory points, yet TR and VS are literally not fighting over a single territory.

I don't think it's meta or anything. I think they just both find NC easier to fight than deal with each others bullshit.

I've taken to lurking both. I definitely prefer here, but I don't think it was their general that killed it. Theirs is hardly more active than this one. I think the death was more from the broken dreams that came with construction being shit. People gave up.

I'd have honestly quit after construction, if it weren't for my outfit.

I think the number of "git gud/t. shitter" voices reached critical mass and no one wants to post here anymore.

They were always present, but they've become a seriously high percentage of posts as of late.

And earlier today on one continent NC and VS were both even with like 42% pop each and NC was winning with like 9 VP to VS 3, but then the other continent locked and suddenly everyone flooded in with fairly even pop across all factions and it ended with another VS lock

TR is always focusing on NC and ignoring VS. Probably because prowlers beat vanguards in armor pushes but magriders are 2sneaky for simple prowler drivers to deal with

It demonstrably does happen sometimes, e.g. two 96+ fronts on your line and only one small 24-48 fight on the enemy's line. To believe the same thing doesn't happen just as often to the other two factions is silly.

i check the map and measure whos fighting who how much by the number of little explosions appear

blue border always has little explosions all over the place, whereas there is often a distinct lack of explosions between red and purple during off hours, and during primetime it picks up some, though population wise it always seems like both factions are dedicating more to exploding along blue territory lines, and NC often seems to be fighting in one additional front than the other factions.

Though its really a matter of 'people dont like fighting vs', particularly newer players since VS have so much bullshit going on like free night camo. I noticed both on connery AND on emerald, as both tr and nc, that people tend to not want to fight vs as much. This is why vs does so well i think even though the other factions both have some really good empire specific stuff, they are just less fun to fight because of all those alien hax.

But the average person dose not want to fight vs. I did not want to fight vs when i was new to the game either, they are just automatically harder to fight. Their maxes are thinner so harder to hit, their aoe spam is bigger, their mbt can climb fucking walls, they are completely invisible at night.

Sure, once you learn how the game works, its mostly ok. But most people dont know how the game works.

As much as this game is bad at telling people how to do, well anything, can they not have bothered to put hive efficiency maps in game or give a hud indicator for when retards put up terrible hives that lock everything else out?

Saron probably fits it better, with ability to magdump when peeking. That was my impression when I ran with a magrider pro friend of mine who had both.

Aphelion is exceptional on a harasser though. It's just a straight up better vulcan. If you haven't already got it - get it. It's OP as shit, just no-one spams it, so it'll never get nerfed.

PPA is shit. Get a kobalt instead if you plan to kill infantry, though you'd be better in a fury harasser or bus for that.

I guess I'll just pick up the Saron again.

Could you elaborate a bit more on the PPA vs Kobalt deal? Very few people actually talk about the "shit" weapons in the game.

Well, I can mostly talk about it from a harasser perspective, as that's what I tend to main vehicle wise.

Basically, PPA is extremely inaccurate (think harasser bound duster), along with a relatively small magazine, along with mediocre damage.

As a result, you've a very small effective range (unless tap firing - greatly increasing your time to kill) weapon, that can really only kill 1 or 2 people per magazine.

It's a very mediocre weapon, and in context of the canister and marauder as its competition - it's absolute shit. Against groups up close, you'll be caught reloading before they're dead, and die, against solo players, they'll either medkit through your damage if at range, or you'll straight up miss them due to bloom.

A kobalt however tends to work quite nicely on a solo harasser (or driven sunderer - it's more a stable platform, I assume it's good on magriders too). It's a headshot machine that nearly never needs to be reloaded. You can easily pick off lone targets out for a good range, and spam down clumps. It has a good TTK, and generally it's a very solid weapon.

I guess the only reason you'd take the PPA over the kobalt is for splash damage - but then again, I'd take a fury for that. It does the job better, and is far more reliable over range once you've got the arc down. Fury is just a less specialised marauder, so it fills the niche perfectly.

Really, the aphelion is nearly as good at anti-infantry as the PPA once you become proficient with the disk mechanic.

it should be noted that the PPA is a godly zerg weapon. when many tanks are using it in the same fight, generally no infantry are left standing.

I can't fucking see them at night. The dark colors blend into shadows and break up their silhouette. They're easier to lose in visual noise, and harder to spot before they open fire on you.

Meanwhile NC and TR run around in highly contrasting red and blue.

VS's armor needs to go back.

The date on this file is September 1st, 2014 but I think it's still pretty much the same except with more bits and bobs for new helmets.

You piqued my curiosity so I went a digging to find what the VS sheet looks like now.

Not quite as pitch black, more of an iffy indigo-type color, but still nowhere as near as contrasted as the original skin.

Look closer too and you'll see there's even LESS teal, with the last little bits having been turned a sort of blue-grey that's way less standout than the teal was.

VS needs the bright pinkish/purple highlights on the edges like The solid portion of the camo can be as black as they want so long as the silhouette/outline is distinct and visible like the NC and TR.

Battle Rifles; statistically the same guns in every way, except the VS version has no drop and a 30m/s slower bullet.

I think this is a pretty good case example of the difference that no bullet drop actually makes - it's not much, but it's also not nothing.

Battle rifles are one of the only guns where the lack of bullet drop actually matters, that being very low rate of fire, higher damage semi-auto weapons that aren't shotguns.

There's not really any point. You barely get any velocity increase and the tradeoff is losing 20% of your max damage range.

The real issue is i have a disconnect of what range is in game. I dont really know how far 10meters is compared to 8 meters. I cant understand how many times i am within that 8-10 meter range. Because according to charts ive seen im better off in almost all situations having HVA unless i am shooting at something within that 2 meter window.

So in my experience using gauss saw i either try to stay further away than 10 meters, or im doing some emergency point holding and im peeking out a door and mowing down 5 people point blank with headshots.

That said im not sure it really matters enough to spend the 100 certs since gauss saw already rapes everything at all ranges

Shotguns are not bullshit, they're very good at close range and useless at medium/long range (besides for the slug baron meme). What's bullshit is that because of the retarded netcode, you can get OHKd two seconds before you see that lagging subhuman round the corner.
Also, infiltrators as a whole are bullshit, not just SMG.

I'm making a spreadsheet using dasanfall's numbers.

You can do it yourself if you want, the formula I'm using to determine real DPS is:

(A*B*C) + (A*B)
A = ((RPM / 60) * DMG Per Bullet)
B = Accuracy %
C = HSR %

Example, Gauss Saw:
A = ((500 / 60) * 200) = 1667.667 DPS
B = 17.9%
C = 20.7%

(1667.667 * 0.179 * 0.207) + (1667.667 * 0.179) = 360.31 DPS

Thus we get 360 DPS for someone with 17.9% accuracy and 20.7% headshot ratio using the Gauss Saw.

Keep in mind that it doesn't take into account attachments, leg damage, fire modes, or DPS at varying ranges. For instance, a Gauss Saw is able to put out more DPS at 100m than an Orion is. It's a rough approximation of real-world weapon performance on the server and aggregates all ranges and situations together.
