There's 100% hope of you reading the sequels if you don't die. Sekai is indeed actively working on them, and the game sold pretty well. It'll just take as long (if not longer) for them to come out as it would for you to learn Japanese. Your choice.

Rakuen is shit though and Meikyuu isn't that great either.

I'm gonna be the unpopular opinion on this one. I went through all of Muv-Luv and then all of Muv-Luv Alternate.

I was very disappointed. There's a lot of great build up. Characters are solid. MC has one of the most believable development arcs in VNs. But the romances basically go nowhere, there isn't much emotional payoff for all the suffering going on, and the ending is just about the worst fucking thing ever. It's very long, has some filler, some CRAZY ASS SHIT that just takes you out of the action towards the end because it's ridiculous and fetishistic...

But if you jerkoff to military shit, it's an easy recommendation I guess.

What? Try not to spoil me, but why are they shit? The first one is pretty much the best VN of all time up there with G-Senjou and the one with the nightmare gore-vision monster girl.

Most of that is forgiven because the game is just so fun and interesting, in away 99% of vns simply aren't. It's an easy recommendation because it's so unique. And yes, even among UNTRANSLATED games, sci-fi like MLA is rare.

Well, Meikyuu is an angst parade but still fairly entertaining while Rakuen is full of silly shit and a few admittedly decent parts like Thanatos.

I agree. Without a good ending the rest of the game meant nothing to me. Might as well just shit on everything you've done if you can't wrap it up. The end raid was hyped up for the entire novel and it took like 1 hour max. Instead of doing anything interesting with the characters they just all die within minutes of each other making it impossible to even care...

Now there you go. Monster Girl Quest + Muv Luv is a VN I would be able to get behind.

What I meant to say is that MLA was written with the very clear intention of being read by fans of their prior works, which included both MLE and Kiminozo. Therefore, critiquing the work for lack of emotional attachment of certain characters isn't quite... meaningful? Compelling? It's almost equivalent to skipping MLE and then complaining about not knowing the girls in MLA well. In short, the "fault" isn't in MLA's writing, but you.

Its starts off pretty damn boring as you're basically forced into a 3+ hour long flashback depending on your reading speed right at the beginning but it gets better but ultimately isn't as good as the first. Hope you read Cartagra as it has a ton of call backs to it.
