Iga declares war on you in ANY game (First isn't special for them, unless I'm mistaken) if two things are true: 1) You're not at war with anyone. 2) The Tenshi Sect monks have been massacred. Usually, #2 negates #1 because the massacre causes the Tenshi Sect war, but it's not always the case. I've been meaning to dig deeper into this, but I think Iga's war is an end of turn event, while Tenshi is a start of turn. In my most recent playthrough, on one turn I had just beat Ashikaga, and by the next both Iga and Tenshi were at war with me.

Pauldrons are protective gear that go on the shoulders. There is a scene right after Kentarou becomes a Dark Lord that he appears with strange clothing. One of the strange pieces of clothing he has are the sheep pauldrons.
