Johnny is the hardest new character to lean in terms of learning how to actually play the character correctly. However its much easier to get wins with him even if you are not doing the optimal stuff. Jam is an easier character to learn but harder to win with if that makes sense.

how's this for a way of teaching fighting games to newbies?
introduce them to Ryu, but the only move you teach them is cr.hp, and you jump in on them over and over until they react to it and punish you consistently; if they use any buttons besides cr.hp they'll ultimately get their shit pushed.
after that you teach them, say, st.hk and jump in from further away, but mixing closer jump ins to force them to switch up between the two moves
and gradually introducing them to new moves one step at a time until they react to everything correctly

neutral in tekken isn't that different from SF or other fighting games the same principle of moving in and out of your opponents range to make them whiff so you can punish (especially if you play a mishima)
the movement options you have like wavedashing and KBD plus the frame date on some moves does make it look a little odd though, i can agree
