Pokken Tournament is sponsored by The Pokemon Company rather than Nintendo and they're more willing to chip in.

If you look back to EVO 2015, Killer Instinct (sponsored by Microsoft) had 397 entrants and a prize pool of $54k, while Smash 4 (sponsored by Nintendo of America) had 1926 entrants and a prize pool of $19k.
