The entire lore of this card game from the anime is that Pegasus based it on the pastime of Egyptian Sorcerors and Kings going into different dimensions and honing their skills with monsters they can summon with their Magic.
It got so out of hand that one Pharaoh had to seal away his name and memories as well as his very soul into a puzzle in order to keep these games from every appearing again.
The card game inherits this very spirit.
