I think SBFP only got the Boss Tier, w/o the secret area, but maybe they could split the boss into parts if it wasn't too much trouble. Maybe he could turn into Tribaz as part of a Super Attack of some kind, or something.

Unfamiliar with fighting games except for Melee and the original DC SoulCalibur. Want to explore more games in the genre and heard this was a great place to start. Not to mention - easy to run, fairly active community and a jazz-themed character who gets to play a trumpet solo before he busts out his strongest finisher.

Are all those accurate? Will I probably enjoy this game given that background? And the 2nd Encore upgrade unlocks all the DLC characters, right?

The best place to dive into the game is the tutorial.

After finishing the tutorial check out the Discord server for advice / help / matches and also the official forums (Skullheart).

You won't find any gameplay related help / talk here.

Make sure to buy the Steam version, that's where all the players are.

Do some basic tutorial.
Then play some easy story modes
Then go into the advanced tutorials for combos
Then go online and get you ass kicked until you gut gud.

There are lots of IRL tournaments yes.
The last big one was 150+ entrants.

All the characters are good and viable, none of them are bad.
There are only bad teams.

Yeah, I have a PS3 controller at home I use for stuff like this thankfully. Right now I'm just stuck on a laptop, though, so I'll probably just play against bots or something. I don't want to fuck myself over by playing on two different setups tho so I'll probably just go back to JJBA after a while.

Yeah, listen to this I play the game with a PS4 controller wired and it works great. Use a stick or a pad.
And you're going to have to learn combos/characters offline.
Learn how to block and avoid burst bait online.
IRL buddies help, but lots of practice will at least make you good. GL

Practicing a big band level 5 jingle takes practice. Look up the note pattern and work on it.
Also skull heart is a great place to ask for advice, or the websites we can't mention here. Just get some good tips.
This place is admittedly heavy on waifus or indivisible right now.

The advanced tutorials aren't very good for learning combos, I feel. Most of them aren't very good or practical.

At face value the Tutorial and Trial combos aren't optimal, but there are still bits of important tech within them.

Like in the Tutorial mode, performing the combos isn't about practical damage, but really just understanding the rhythm of the game and getting a feel for how to chain attacks together. That's really important for people who aren't used to navigating 6-button controls. You have to advance your techskill from a 0/10 to at least a 4/10 to get through those consistently.

and In the Trials, you can take what you've learned elsewhere and reverse engineer the combo it presents you to make something useful.

Example, I had been playing Painwheel for a long time, but somehow never knew I could reliably connect j.MK into c.MK after a throw until I did the Trial. I had always just been doing j.MK to c.LK instead. That little bit of knowledge then translated to me using c.MK confirm after j.MK in other situations too, which is slightly better for damage and scaling for combos overall.

So little bits like that can go a long way.
