This isn't true. On my grandfather's home island they quickly began working as middle men between English and the slaves from Africa.

Not that I particularly care for it, the Irish famine could be considered a genocide. Genocide is the intentional killing or removal of a specific ethnic group. The British government blocked shipments of food to Ireland from Turkey which would count as genocide.
