Is there anyone who would be willing to make me some talking sound affects like the ones in banjo kazooie or animal crossing? I'm no good with sound and don't even know where to start with making this.

reminder to take breaks and stay positive or the negativity will leak into your game. if that happens people will pick up on it and find your game negative and unfun. enthusiasm is infectious!

HARD WORK AND GUTS

I want to make a dark souls clone but I know it can't happen without money

I don't want it to sound like some retro bullshit. I want it to be cutesy and not ear rapey.

if i can dream it, ill always be a nodev

me too! Lets work together

thanks anal idol

I'll remember it, Anal Queen.

What skills do you have?

nice cards bruh i haven't into graphics yet

i just decided to make it as a challenge for myself, i might try to add network play if that isn't ridiculous in game maker

>tfw half my front page on steam is weeaboo visual novels

When did this happen?

So this XNA shader tutorial doesn't work with the most recent version of Monogame:
gmjosack.github.io/posts/my-first-2d-pixel-shaders-part-1/
Anyone know of a tutorial that isn't 5 years old?

Couple months ago

Weebs are the worst

Here's the gamedev playlist.

I added some random GDC talks but you can suggest or add other videos to it.

We could add this to the aggy daggy site if it takes off.

>tfw will never have a weaboo visual novel on steam's front page

people need a game to read

>Building The AI For BioShock Infinite's Elizabeth

Is there really 59 minutes of talking about how they made an AI that is immune to damage so they didn't have to bother with actually designing it?

Programming experience with experience in programming in multiple different languages.

I'm making a game about controlling a mobile fortress, is there any gold standard for implementing multiple leg that utilize terrain colliders? 4 at least, perhaps more unless it's requires much more code.

Terrain will only be sheer walls and flat surfaces if that helps.

thanks user, what kind of card game are you planning on? I've been working on devising my own 2 player game - it's pretty hard to come up with a game that isn't completely luck based, but I am planning on three variants with different amounts of player input.

The best place to learn Unity is their website or do you guys know some better learning material?

oh man, i have a rounder game i want to make, but its pretty intimidating thinking of the fact that ill have to write all the different ai profiles

Yes, best way to learn any language is reading the documentation.

Managed to get 6 character classes done and now assigning animations is being a bastard since I put 4 spines instead of 2 while using a 'humanoid' setup so the next week is all re-rigging

Nice Korean mmorpg.

cute sluts

Networking and mysql experience?

what's this?

Its not a language, its an engine.

Yes to both. I have made a chat room client before and worked with multiple database sql queries

the game i'm trying to make currently is a variation of blackjack, where players trade cards to try and make 31 (all face cards being ten, aces 11)

i think i will create individual objects for the cards, when i start over with graphics - using arrays in game maker seems to be a great deal of bullshit and i haven't wrapped my head around enums/ds_maps yet

What's the point of your post?

Unity c# scripting is what you are learning, it's a language for all intents and purposes, that's why it has a scripting API and documentation.

progress [\spoiler]

Which one is better?

stuff happens
} else {
other stuff happens

Come on fellas, post them gamedev videos.

Posted in a dead thread. In a turn based rpg , should players learn new tech by gaining experience and leveling up or by progressing through the story and sidequest?

youtube.com/playlist?list=PLc38fcMFcV_s7Lf6xbeRfWYRt7-Vmi_X9

youtube.com/watch?v=7IRil_R5sEI

I like the second one better for clarity, but it takes more space. My code usually fits the screen though, so that's not a problem, but I'd understand using the first in order to see more code at once.

Ideally I'd say gameplay-changing and special tech should be plot based (AND SCALE WITH THE LEVEL, PLEASE), whereas regular "higher damage output" tech should be acquired through level ups.

guys what is considered the standard for demo day? If I manage to whip something up that is interactive and slap some music on it is that acceptable? Will probably wait for the next one either way, I'm just getting started with gamemaker here.

Added another enemy to SKULLCHAINZ, the Spartan. Unlike the other enemies, he can block your attacks while trying to spear you. He's a tricky one to fight, even one on one.

my girlfriend is leaving me because my games aren't making money
this is the worst day of my life tell me why I shouldnt just kill myself

I'll be your friend

Your girlfriend is a nodev. You should have sex with her brother or her father to get back at her.

we animal crossing now

webmshare.com/GaDWb

Fuck bitches get money

Hurray, the menu is functional! For the purposes of Demo Day, I'm gonna put an NPC in the spawn room that will explain some stuff, in lieu of a full-fledged tutorial. Although there's not much you need to know past the controls, which are rebindable. I don't think I'll have gamepad functional yet for this demo, though.

Gogem pls

>normie problems
I laugh at your life

abandon 3dpd
acquire 2d

you have been liberated my friend, most people aren't as lucky

Don't overthink it the worst that might happen is no one playing your game

Teach me to art like you PLZ

What's the best way for updating your game on itch.io? Creating a new page for each demo, or just editing the previous one you had?
I have seen agdg devs doing one or the other.

>cares about your money
>not about you
Nothing of value lost.

>spartan
>not phalanx

Damn that's a pretty shitty gf you had there user
Be glad
If she can't love you when you don't make money she's not worth much more than a fuckbuddy

People usually care about each other for reason others than how much money they make, and I'm sure there are people who care about you just because you're you
Don't give up! And remember the saying. It gets better.

She is clearly a goldigger. You dodged a bullet there, mate. Don't feel bad about it, keep working hard, you'll eventually find someone that will care about you and not about your money.

I figure once I put something out there I might generate some interest from agdg at least. That should be enough to keep me motivated

>in game lore comprises 70 pages of newspaper clippings and diaries

Show games? Oh wait I forgot you're just hungry for normalfag (You)s.

>She is clearly a goldigger. You dodged a bullet there, mate.
oh yes, because it's a unacceptable reason to leave someone who is digging his own grave because of a childish dream he refuses to grow out of

I really like Demo Day, but the name is quite misleading, since many games are far away from being actual demos, and they are rather games in beta, or even in alpha stage. So if you have a sprite which jumps around then you are good to go.

What should I be looking to modify in a CRT shader to decrease the amount of RGB shifting and the sharpness of the scanlines?

>Says the guy who is here too

That's because I'm self-aware. I have that dream too and I know it will probably lead nowhere.

okay devs, where is the shameless self insert in your game?

i am an NPC

>not just using women for sex
its no wonder your games are shit

my ex is a villain succubus

Haha I couldn't even do this one without sketching it first and then doing a pixelly version afterwards.

Took me like 3 hours to stitch that nonsense together.

Completely agree. Speaking as a nodev with a secure job and soon to be married you cant blame a woman for accurately diagnosing a problem and removing it from her life. She made a smart life decision. She probably already had a better option lined up before she cut him off. I dont blame her. No woman wants a manchild.

The MC of course

>putting yourself in your own game
i seriously hope you don't actually do this

>little anime girls

is this bait? obviously unplayable

I'm planning to add myself as an NPC too, a guy playing a keyboard that will stop the music in the entire game if you say to him that his music sucks.

Nice. I remember you.

I modeled the player after myself in my old Zombies Ate My Neighbors knockoff that I worked on a couple years ago. It's easier than designing original characters lol

Any alternatives to UE4 to make 2D Games

no

unreal is the only way to make a 2d game

no actually

i want to make my strategy game extremely and easily(just writing non-code into a txt file) moddable, and i want most of the content to be added as you would add a mod, to the point where even the turn processing order can somehow be modded.

what are the best programming tools to do that? word processing? virtual machines?handmade interpreters?

You can use anything and then put Ruby on top of it for scripting.

do you know any fucking thing about programming
what the fuck you want to make a fucking strategy game and you dont even know this what the fuck just no please just no

i want my modding language to be way more simple than real coding. basically some hashtag directives.

>no actually

forgot image

Eh fuck it, i will just assume people have better machine than my 5 yo old computer and not optimized under it

It's a 3D game with some fancy shaders.

>phalanx
>not hoplite

That's why I said Ruby.

You can create an API and then users can mod it with anything you want, text files, a UI you created or whatever.

user, maybe first learn programming yourself before trying to implement something like this?

Sup everyone.

Are all of you guys this difficult to work with or is it just me who is having a fucking difficult time getting a constructive answer out of my dev partner that isnt
>I like it
or
>this is bad

I have 2GB of ram and a 2.5 GHz processor, can I run it?

sounds interesting.
i am not an expert coder but i am not novice either.

is there a list of cheap game engines that support ruby? so far i've only coded in C# on Unity.

How important is it that a game is moddable?

There is such a thing as minimum specs.
All the big companies are doing it.

You know how it goes: sometimes the fault lies in the question. Are you asking for something specific, like 'is the movement smooth enough?', or are your questions vague, like 'how do you like this and this?'?

Sound guy here again, this webm illustrate the issue: a.pomf.cat/dhqzwp.webm

I'm trying to make it to the second sound (the "floop") doesn't play on the first click. It should only play if the first sound is playing, and the image has been clicked again
