Well yeah, it's basically just a term people use when a game: 1. Has a lot of moe animu girls in it 2. Is not something they're familiar with 3. Is not something popular among the normies. This include elitist normies who would shill niche, old games thinking they have elite taste while it really isn't that niche. I'll be honest though this is mostly just something I pulled out of what I observed from the people around me, your mileage may vary.
Mecha fanservice does tend to be better accepted by normies than moe fanservice, so you can like those and not be ashamed of it among your friends. Still, my point is that SRW is literally just mecha fanservice with nothing else going for it.

I played Resogun on a friend's PS4 for like thirty minutes and somewhat enjoyed it, albeit not as much as I enjoyed the games it's ripping off.

Gonna be level with you, 5's true strength is almost squarely in how it uses the gamepad. There's some cool areas like the Shrine of Dolls and Shrine of the Ephemeral, and it does eke out the occasional good scare but in terms of pacing, there's a LOT of retreading old territory and it's probably my second least favorite in that respect after 3. Combat absolutely blows the rest of the series the fuck out, though.
