First off, thanks for taking the time to review the game. Feedback like yours is very useful.
>>Didn't really know what was happening or what I was doing This is an issue that has been reported by a few people. I'll add more explanation in later relases
>>Errors Any idea on what steps were taken to cause that error to occur? Additionally, what graphics card do you have?
Thanks again!
William Allen
In this world, it's all about a free released 2D or 3D cute girl.
No, I am gaijin. I am in a circle though, but it is not a game development circle.
>I probably wouldn't play it though. Any specific reason for this? Like it doesn't suits games or something?
Jaxon Hall
NO HOW DID THIS CAMERA SHIT GET THROUGH BETA TESTING JESUS
Chase Johnson
Why do you keep making up words?

> Free after collision event > Make blocks independent > Linked list of blocks in playing field

> But the tetrimino... And they aren't a tetrimino on the collision event, see above.
I definitely did not want a control flow ocean in my source code, shit smells bad IMO. And i'm still learning, i didn't realize i was talking to a realdev that hangs around in a amateur dev thread.
>make a typing game >then make a game where you move an object while avoiding obstacles >then make a multiplayer game Thanks for the advice. Should I do it in something like gamemaker or do you think I should just shut up, pick one and get on with it?
Parker Davis
YOU CAN DO IT!
Lincoln Ramirez
Please help. How do I make a generic character that I can then easily make controlled by either the player or AI? So far every time I make the player or enemy it's always hard coded into each, they're always separate.
Jeremiah Ortiz
POST IT
PLEASE
Ethan Sanchez
The opposite. Here's one of the game's characters. It's the MC's mentor or something.
>148038235 repoasting in new thread again, I was asking about how to do hitboxes for tetris, in monogame, user suggested to make a grid instead.
And how would I do that in monogame? I'm pretty fresh off the boat. Since it's 2d, would I just use an array for the x and y co-ordinates, check to make sure the current block won't occupy a space with a 1, and step down? And if it would occupy a space with a 1, lock the block, and move onto the next block?
Now the eye ability cuts through the next 4 enemies This is balanced because it can only fire straight ahead and is actually hard to get into place to fire
Ryder Moore
Whodevs technically can make it, but they're still not welcome here.
Justin Reyes
Wow, I think he used a four-syllable word in there
Thanks for the emotional music so I can tell this is important
Henry Ortiz
I hate the JIT so much but maybe not as much as the AOT in Unity's old ass version of Mono.
Chase Johnson
>Any idea on what steps were taken to cause that error to occur? Additionally, what graphics card do you have? I have ATI FirePro M4000. No idea what caused the errors, sorry.

He's actually right.

Are they upgrading to .NET Core?
Dominic Richardson
still no Idea what the squares mean
Xavier Hall
One last request for feedback, now that demo day is over. Did anyone find all the secrets in my game? (see webm for complete secrets) Did anyone play on Linux / have issues with it? Any other comments?
Daniel Robinson
Brand to to makin' vidya games
If I start learning with Gamemaker will that fuck me over since it does a bunch of shit for me?
Robert White
Is there much difference between Unity and Gamemaker? Surface level, they kinda look the same.
Connor Parker
who wins demo day? strawpoll.me/10713863 only let me put 30, sorry all yesdevs who didn't make the cut
Caleb Parker

is she shooting nuts?
Jeremiah Morgan
I haven't heard anything about them doing that but I don't think they would make it a priority, especially not if they would have to pay for it.
Jeremiah Lewis
What the fuck This is good advice >idears Fucking murricans
Lincoln Wood
not voting you nerd
everyone wins
Christopher Young
Blue squares are the movement range. You can move to any blue square this turn.
Red squares are where you can attack. This attack can target the 4 squares in front of the eye.
The squares seems like the least confusing part of this game
Benjamin Martinez
Every vote bullying 29 people, that's some efficiency.
Hudson Fisher
With Gamemaker, you're eventually going to find it very difficult to do any 3D, any multiplayer, and actually just proper object-oriented programming. It's good for small prototypes though.
Chase Ortiz
Too many leap of faiths.
Ayden Rogers
Thanks for the advice. I'll download Unity now.
Mason Ortiz
this is a joy to watch but seems like it would be awful to play and discover all those paths
Logan Price
In-depth criticism user from the last thread here Secrets I didn't find: 0:28 because it was outright suicidal (but I suspected there would be something) 0:17, 0:50 and 1:13 because they were way too fucking obscure Sord/Aggy Dagger is even more obscure but it's pretty funny. Is there even a way to follow the trail of blueberries to the platform right before?
Gotta agree with too
Jaxon Perry
Does libgdx work with Scala?
Nicholas Turner
>if they would have to pay for it Nope, .NET Core has been released under the MIT license, so it's "more free" to use now than Unity's version of Mono.
Christopher James
>I'll download Unity now Why would you choose a terribly buggy engine?
Adam Wood
Nope, sorry, they are pretty obscure desu, you should add a pattern or something so people have a vague idea where they can be, like Donkey Kong country, you start in one point but if you decide to check behind you there are some secrets, or those breakable walls.
What the fuck is wrong with some people? How do you get motion sick while sitting on your fat ass?
Henry Allen
Hello AirScapedev Make a camera that doesn't turn my stomach upside down
Connor Thomas
I was thinking about it, but I probably won't. I don't really know Scala though and was trying to find an excuse to learn it but I never found an interesting project for it so maybe I shouldn't even bother.
Xavier Walker
""""""""""""""""""""""""friend"""""""""""""""""""""""" lmao he's fucking with you
just use c++ w/ opengl like all cool kids
Michael Carter
I'm a nodev, buddy
Lucas Walker
If you don't mind I would be grateful if you could review my demo. nurikabe.itch.io/viplikedd9 I have to sleep now though so I'm sorry to ask at this time when I cannot respond soon.
I could see them doing it then if they find it will fix or support something else they want to do. I am really hoping for a better GC and less unpredictable AOT compiler.
Caleb Long
>just use c++ w/ opengl like all cool kids You mean nodev Look at demo day, all the yesdevs aren't making hello triangle for weeks because they don't want to use an engine.
Ian White
Unity is the ONLY way to make games!! ;^)
How much does Unity pay you to shill it here?
Anthony Nguyen
Bugged camera or dog shit developer?
Ian Hall
>making hello triangle for weeks fucking lmao that's the vulkan devs I churned out that red rectangle in mere days
Kayden Brown
i can do that rectangle in 1 month
Jace Smith
red flowers

>tfw have million dollar idea >but nobody to work on it with >can't trust people because most will just steal the idea >those that aren't in it to steal it are just incompotent >those that aren't bad wind up being unreliable
gamedev is suffering.
Jack King
If you want an alternative to Java for working with LibGDX, I'd suggest Kotlin. If you want to learn about languages with fancy type systems, however, start with Elm (elm-lang.org/). You could make a real game in Elm if you don't mind that it's still version 0.x and the devs will certainly break your code before 1.0 arrives.
Julian Brooks
>I churned out that red rectangle in mere days Now churn out a game
Ryan Johnson
>gamedev is suffering.
Being an ideaguy is not gamedev.
Chase Bennett
more like ideaguy is suffering lmao
Jaxon Gomez
Noted. I actually used the red flowers to mark secrets in many places but noticed I forgot a few. I'll also do my best to avoid blind jumps in the future.
>Sord/Aggy Dagger is even more obscure but it's pretty funny. Is there even a way to follow the trail of blueberries to the platform right before? You can jump to the platform from below, it's just at the right height. The trail is there just to point to the fake spikes (which also have a red flower behind them if you look very closely)
They were supposed to be pinecones. I'm going to redraw them eventually since I don't think anyone recognized them.
Jeremiah Phillips
uh oh my code is so spaghetti you could call it Italian. And I've only started.
Tyler Murphy
>proving my point
Hunter Rivera
Yes, I'm using it. I can help you get the build working
Don't be fucking stupid. What's could be wrong about writing a game in Scala? Loads of people are using Java, and Scala can be written as a better Java. Or it can be written like a functional haskellhead language. Or, the middle path, the Scala way that takes from both.
The only bad thing about Scala is the compile times.
Adam Martin
Anyone still need feedback?
Brandon Hughes
>look at my FPS in unity >way lower than it should be at around 200 fps >create an empty scene >still 200 fps >open an old project with way more stuff in the scene and happening in scripts >400 fps >go back to my previous project >60 fps >turns out vsync was on, but bugged
Fucking unity
Charles Roberts
So I fucked up my VS dark theme a couple of installs ago and it carried over through their cloud profile shit. Any way to reset it to the default VS dark theme?
Gavin Morris
someone please fucking help me i have a problem my shmup has over 30 weapons in it now and I can't stop but I havent even made the first level
Parker Williams
No, fuck that, Kotlin is nowhere near as used in real projects as Scala.
Elm is a really cool and promising new language though, really easy to get started on, really safe and fun to write. I really wish I get to use it in the real world some day.
Luke Gomez
If you actually believe you have a million dollar idea you're an idiot not to make it. Learn as you go, make it solo in three years if that's what it takes, it's still 300k/year salary.
But your idea is shit and you know it, otherwise you'd be off earning that one million.
