EO1? You need to keep a party buff around to deal with its howl at all time (Debuff your team. If there is no buff, inflict Terror). You need a Protector to send up an elemental shield against all the three dragons or you are cooked before it even begins.

I've never played EO and don't care for lolis, but I do like Wizardry. Is this series worth looking into? Are there demos somewhere?

There are demos for all games on eShop.

All 3DS games, to be correct.

3DS Eshop demos for Etrian Odyssey IV and both of the remake games, Untold 1 Millennium Girl and Untold 2 Fafnir Knight.

The three DS games are also available for emulation and I'm pretty sure you can still buy them online. The 3DS games have difficulty settings, but I don't know how prevalent the instakills are in this series compared to Wizardry. I don't remember encountering much.

Is there some sort of resource document for EO2? EO1 has that folder floating around with a bunch of skill and ai data from Terance on gamefags, and EO3 and EO4 both have a skill sim.

You probably already know this by now but you dont have to use lolis.

I believe it's random. They should be showing up in the farthest land you've reached (so you wont find them in the Windy Plains if you've reached the Cloudy Stronghold, for example).

Pick either Sand or Nerve Throw to focus on. Auto-Cloak is very helpful if you don't otherwise have damage mitigation. It's also fine to just save up some points and use them after you hit the level gate.

Generally advisable to rest and respec after passing each level gate. Though actually I get lazy and only do it at 42.
