Good fortifications and a charismatic leader. The fact that the British fucked up badly didn't hurt either. When the secondary force was supposed to be landed, the ship was on the wrong side of the river and some miles away so they never arrived.

Andrew Fuck Your Bitch Jackson

>John Coffee
>fighting against tea-drinking limeys

Brits were standing in a line and got destroyed

The US was still pretty Tea Drinking by this point.

how the fuck did this happen?

We fired our guns and the British kept a-coming
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago.
We fired once more, and they began to running,
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

I guess John changed everything huh

>Jean Laffite
How french?

>Lafitte
>american flag

reeee

Born in France or at least French territory. Was a pirate, got kicked out of France, moved to Louisiana, became American with the Louisiana Purchase.

Lafitte hadn't been French for almost a decade when the war of 1812 broke out. He'd been American for over a decade by the Battle of New Orleans.

this is objectively the best historical song of all time.

The Brits fucked up completely, they would've lost to anyone.

>if you live in america for a while you magically change nationality

Take out the word "magically" and basically yes.

that's how it works you fucking retard.

bullshit.
most Americans think it takes multiple generations for immigrants to be "real" Americans

even then if you aren't white or black, youre always the nationality your great grandparents came from.

Not really. You can't be unborn from your french parents in France.

Well, let's run through this really quickly:

>Was Jean Lafitte a citizen of France?
No, he was an enemy of the state.

>Was Jean Lafitte a citizen of the United States?
Yes and he contributed significantly to growth in New Orleans and Texas as an American entity.

Jean Lafitte was not French. Jean Lafitte was American.

>>Was Jean Lafitte a citizen of the United States?
>Yes and he contributed significantly to growth in New Orleans and Texas as an American entity.
Utterly irrelevant. The only thing that matters in nationality is your parents. Whether you are a good national or not is not a factor. A stamp on a card doesn't change where you come from and who you are.

Well his parents move from Haiti to New Orleans and were still alive when it was annexed to the United States making his parents US citizens. You can push it into semantics all you like, but even if he isn't American he sure as shit wasn't French. He's either American or a non-national entity.

>tfw your parents move and it changes your nationality
are you stupid? He was born in France from french parents. It doesn't get that much frencher. These aren't semantics, they're facts.

The evidence for that is EXTREMELY poor. The best evidence points towards him being born in Haiti and moved to Louisiana when he was very young. The French wanted nothing to do with him, he wasn't a French citizen. He wasn't a French national. He didn't consider himself French. He lived in the United States and he was a United States citizen. He's either a non-national entity because of his piracy or he's an American. Your ethnicity isn't your nationality and the only stupid person here is you.

> The French wanted nothing to do with him, he wasn't a French citizen. He wasn't a French national. He didn't consider himself French.
All of these are irrelevant when determining nationality.
Piracy also doesn't remove your nationality (what the actual fuck).
It's not something you can change at will or determine by yourself. You are born belonging to one nation, one people, and nothing will ever change that until we can swap peoples minds.

>You are born belonging to one nation, one people, and nothing will ever change that until we can swap peoples minds.
t. Not American

Lafitte was American, deal with it.

The British Army had shit tier commanders that had failed to penetrate the Southern Interior after capturing many of the countries port cities. This was just the result of said poor command

If you have American citizenship, you're an American with all the privileges of one

America is not a nation. It shares more similarities with a corporation than a nation.

This isn't about citizenship. Of course he had ameircan citizenship, but it's a stamp on a card, nothing more.

>America is not a nation
You've made some seriously retarded claims but oh boy does this one take the cake. Are you legitimately mentally deficient? Serious question.

Not a chance, I'm not american.

>Andrew Jackson
How could it not happen honestly.

>bantz
Seriously, though, you are a fucking idiot. You are Pure D Village Idiot of Bumfuckistan Europa. Congratulations.

>Of course he had american citizenship, but it's a stamp on a card, nothing more.
It allowed them to vote, have equal protection in court, and required them to pay taxes. By that logic, naturalized Romans weren't considered "citizens" despite them speaking Latin.

I blame the jews

the original Jimmy Driftwood version is way better, I think.

>LET ME TELL YOU HOW YOUR COUNTRY WORKS!!

You really don't understand what 'nationality' means. Please stop embarrassing yourself.
