Is the pistol user still compiling these posts?

No
Source: me

>it's a "spawn on a cliff and activate three pods on turn one" episode

its true

;_;

Its that little extra work you know, and I got it to something that looks nice and complete. Maybe I'll pick up up again, but my main goal was to ingrain "pistols are useful" as a meme and pseudo truth and that mission has been accomplished

...

>Trench Gun is a low-range Shredstorm
Is Johnny feeling alright? This is like reverse-magnificence and I'm loving every second of it.

alien pack isn't out yet.

How bad can it possibly be?

Don't say something you'll regret user, this is Johnny we're talking about.

Magnificent floaters and aliens who has squadsight visionrange for detecting stealthed xcoms

Wait, trench gun removes cover? I didn't think it would, sounded too good to be true since CCS already makes the class overpowered as fuck.

OOOOOOOOOO my GOSH. I cannot BELIEVE you posted A CYCLOPS. you.... ARE A MONSTER!!!

Does anyone know what the console command for spawning a tier 1 bolt caster in the inventory is?

My game bugged out after a mission and now I lost.

Only used it once so far, but yeah, it blew up pretty much all low cover in the way.

>squadsight visionrange for detecting stealthed xcoms
NOW we're talking.
Is there any ETA for the ayylien pack?

You now have the limited chance to ask CIA some questions!

Are the rulers going to fuck me up?

Are pistols useful?

Will ayys and humans ever live in peace?

should i invest into pistols for my campaign?

>mfw LWS made melee overpowered

Honestly, unless it can match ABA with vanilla perks I might not get into it.

>Viper Rounds op will give me some much needed supplies
>Unknown Event op - a useless engineer, but the event is probably something horrible
Should I try my luck, /xcg/?

Someone will undoubtedly reply with >"letting yourself get hit in the first place" but I'd say take the supplies and known threat rather than stop the hidden Op for a crap reward only for it to have been merely something as harmless as Midnight Raids or something.

>engineer,
>useless
What?

If he already has several lying around then yes, it's redundant. I'm trusting user to not be a complete idiot here.

>a useless engineer

Are you playing on rookie?

That's what I'm thinking too. Fuck it, I'll go for it.
Knowing my luck though, the hidden event will probably be Vigilance or some shit.

Got 3 by the end of the second month, yet they don't have much to do because I'm more broke than New Greece right now.

Commander.

What is that shitty formation.
IA is a literallywho, her and Miku should be swapped around along with Haku and Luka.

IA-fag never make a thread ever again, please.

>skip hidden event
>it was infestation

...Welp, have fun with that user.

Sorry, not the same user.
Purley theoretical situation.
until it happens to you

Avatar Breakthrough went off, so I still have no idea what's the hidden one.
Don't think Infestations can happen this early though.

How early should I be doing Shen's mission?

Does it affect Avatar progress?

>tfw my main general was consumed by shitposting and autism
w-will you senpaitchis accept me?
I only played the old games back in the day, what has changed since then except for superior graphics?

Nope. Do it fucking late. It's JUST about possible to do it on ballistics but I really wouldn't.

Bring a lot of Combat-Protocol Specialists if you do. You probably won't have Bluescreen rounds at that point but it's recommended.

Wait, but I thought Shen's robits fall off really hard in the late-game?

Quite a lot. Movement are double-action based instead of granular TUs now. Skills increase set amounts per experience-based level up with special perks per level instead of action-based skill-training. You can now customize every bit of your soldiers like paper dolls. Since there are less troopers (up to six from four) each loss is more devastating and changes the dynamic of gameplay much more than in 94com. The GeoScape is much less analog and much more flowchart-based.

Yes, which is why SPARKs are shit. You get a free SPARK with the mission but they still cost the equivalent of four Rookies and two Heavy Weapons and some alloys.

There is ONE viable build right now (cone-fire powered weapons are actually REALLY USEFUL on a properly perked tank SPARK, much more than a Volatile Mix heavy) but they aren't really good otherwise.

To be clear, you do it when you have mags.

Give a hint at the general. I would imagine a lot of long term generals descend into shitposting from time to time. This one isn't any exception.

In regards to games, depends on which ones. The latest iterations have stripped out, or down, a number of features.
>Don't build multiple bases any more
>Inventory management was streamlined to picking one or two items to bring along and what armor to use (all weapons/armor in the squad upgrade at once when completing research)
>Air game reduced, or removed
>Base defenses mostly gone outside of special circumstances
>Instead of having a number of points to dedicate to movement and actions, you have two 'units', and each one (or both) gets eaten up by any action (such as move [set distance] -> shoot)
That's not to say the new games are bad by any means. They're just different, as less management means you can focus a lot more on the what remains instead of having to worry too much about macro gameplay.

Like said, they did add the ability to customize soldiers as well, so you can make your squad feel a lot more personal. You have to worry more about each loss as well, as they noted, which means the game doesn't end up being a meat grinder that you throw rookies into.

So essentially - different. Some people are even still playing the original 94com here, or a modded version of it, but there are others playing the latest two as well.

I gotta say, taking up a position inside a darkened room can really make you appreciate the dynamic lighting in this game. I reloaded my save post-mission specifically to get another shot at screencapping this with F12, apparently trying to just use print-screen results in getting a picture of when you last alt-tabbed instead.

I managed to do it with ballistics without any losses but that was on commander, I'd wait for at least mag rifles just to be on the safe side.

Hey, could be worse. Getting them supplies from Viper Rounds op was the right choice then.

>Sectoid summoner activated himself on his turn
>opened a portal
>AND summoned a berserker all on the same turn
>the berserker then lunged at us, but died to overwatch out the ass
oh god what the fuck

Grab OpenXcom for good old fashioned fun with interface improvements like hotkeys. You'll need the UFO/TFTD files. Plus it has mods to change things up. A few of us here lay Piratez, which is a full conversion mod.

Does anyone here know the solution for the CTD in Long War that happens immediately after EXALT mission map load?

Don't use an old Long War version.

Are faceless supposed to be triggering from 10-15 spaces away?
Last I played was on release and they only triggered if all other aliens are dead or if you walk ontop of them. In my last two ironmans I've lost because I somehow trigger the two faceless seemingly randomly.

its not a meme, pistols are useful
gunslinger dishes out damage
>oneshotting anything if its not legend

just a new one with
>salvo is useful on all classes

Assuming you're not exagerating with the 10-15 spaces thing, then no, they aren't supposed to do that.

They sometimes trigger when you're close to them even if you don't actually go touch them, but i don't think they do from 10-15 tiles away.

Unless all the other aliens are dead, then they immediately transform.

>weapon types simply displayed as 'unavailable' even though that class is flagged to be able to equip them, and said weapon can be equipped by rookies

is there some kind of retarded limit on the number of primary weapons that can be 'available' for a soldier?

No. Some classes are borked due to mod updates and you have to go into their .ini and change a setting. I don't recall the precise setting though, sorry. Check that class's comments on the Workshop, you'll probably find people talking about it and the solution as well.

Anyone know of a reason to not be able to carry unconscious soldiers? Got a warning about it on a hostile VIP mission...

Being on fire?

No it was in the squad load out screen, and no one could pick up my bleeding out ranger after gremlin stabilized her. Must be a conflict with something, beatdown mod maybe?

Reload?

>get a 10/10 squad with French qt, Irish qt, Swedish blonde qt, badass German qt
>they fail every single flank and get Gatecrasher'd

>next team has 2 balding ginger dudes with the same face and the only girl is a bald iranian
>ace Gatecrasher

The icon was not even there. Completely missing. Before I deployed there was a pop up warning that my squad did not have anyone capable of carrying the Dark VIP... now KO'd troops are dead and I'm hard fucked.

This is what the customization menu is for, user. They don't hand you a character pool so you can just leave it to rot.

No, those guys earned their victory, I'm sticking with those ugly faces.

>just need to mop up a few more Chryssalids to end a retaliation mission
>They go sprinting into the forest together

Mein neger.

Currently my ace Ranger is ugly as fuck nigger, but she just cant stop slaughtering them ayys and not taking damage from anything.
She has earned her place.

Missionposter user returns, with a new mission (and a dope fucking Skyranger). Here's the crew we're taking out to our first Supply Raid. I've got a few new guns (Matt Hudson has Backfire, a XCOM X-9 rifle with Hangfire Propellant and I think an expanded mag; Boyd has Chuckles, an automatic shotgun with a lightweight frame and something else cool). Ben Hudson is carrying Betsy, a XCOM LMG with a mag I slapped on it. We've also got Tariq Rose, apparently some ex-ADVENT trooper who wanted the XCOM life as a rookie.

Let's see how this goes, anons.

Ok, checked. Chuckles has a Stock and a Lightweight Frame. Also, it's Matt and James Hudson, not Ben Hudson, I'm a dope.

Well, it's gone kinda ploin shaped to start. We found the Kommissar/Headhunter pod on the right very early and managed to take the high ground without alerting them. However, a pod of mini-lids has walked up on us. I'm debating how to engage here.

Killed everyone, though Boyd managed to miss 3/4 CQC shots, and a sword swing, and a Fleche attack. She took a stab from a lid and the rookie took two axe hits from the Headhunter (though he did kill the Kommissar, which was nice). Ramon is re-stealthed and scouting ahead now.

Jeez-oh-man, found the next pod, which looks like two of them joined up. A sectoid, a viper, a stun lancer, a wrecker, and a heavy, all together. Fuuuuuu-

Wow I'm bad at this.

>there was a pop up warning that my squad did not have anyone capable of carrying the Dark VIP

That's new.

Dont do that spark/shen mission straight away in legend mode, it's a damn trap. Fucking firaxis are incompetent.

On VIP missions if the shit really hits the fan just ditch the subdued/knockedout vip worse case scenario, unless its a random bug I had no ill effects it just counted it as me killed the VIP, so I only lost the intel bonus.

Engaged the pods. Took a nearby building, managed to draw both pods with everyone in decent spots. CQC+Fleche did work on the viper and the sectoid, rookie was in low cover but survived the wrecker's shot, stun lancer went for the stun, hit Hudson, but didn't stun (thank the king), current projections are positive.

Why are the ayys killing all my sharpshooters? I have none now and have to retrain rookies but all the missions are difficult level.

What should I do/am doing wrong? Does mission difficulty ramp up with a higher avatar timer?

Made it through alright. Rookie leveled into a Bruiser (he had 6 health by default, which is pretty good). Also, Matt Hudson got an amazing AWC perk: Run and Gun. He's pretty damn solid.

Don't place sharpshooters within aliens LOS

That can actually help you set up flanks by the way. Move your sniper away from the lane on which your regular troops are advancing, and when a pod is triggered, you could get flank shots with him

Brief lunch break, back shortly.

yeah but he died from a mind controlled point blank chaingun to the face :( that got out of control and some bad misses up in the 80% mark.

The ayys will always pick the sharpshooter for some reason.

Lower health = higher chance of killshots

Yeah I figured, same as in long war by the looks of it. I guess I should put health pcs on my sharpshooters and vests earlygame..

I wish there was a proper bronzeman mode out. Ironman sucks when you just get back into the swing of xcom and also the first mission of the day always turns into a nightmare.

So modding and interest has died off a fair bit again.

>wanting to savescum

Wait until the alien pack: Everyone above pectoids will have magnificent counter attacks, including poisoning one fo sneks and stunning ones for ALL Advent

Ill savescum all over your face in a minute.

Don't reply to my posts you savescumming pleb

don't talk to me or my savegames ever again

If he triggered two randomly, then he killed all the other ayys

When you kill everyone in the terror missions, the two faceless in the map reveal themselves (unless you reveal them before)

kek

Faceless reminds me of an oiled up bbw

why are there still hangs when I kill aliens?

>activate a pod via run n gun sprint across the map
>civ runs away from the pod, straight into my belgian assault
>the only way to save the civ is to nail a 15% crit
>BELGIUM STRONG saves the poor woman in need
>the civ is a faceless
